Neophyte!

I've never checked into a blog before, and I have no idea what I'm doing. I'd really like to meet other people who share my passion for photography and scrapbooking. I've been scrapbooking for about 15 years, but I've just begun playing with digital layouts. I don't have anything I'm ready to share yet, but I've bought a lot of supplies! How do you separate supplies? By theme, artist, color? Do you keep collections in tact, or separate them into categories? How do you keep track of who to credit for each layout? Help!

Hi, I stumbled onto your new blog and wanted to give you my congrats for starting it! (I haven't tried a blog, yet, either...) I can also offer some advice about storing, naming, saving, and eventually finding your elements. (Mainly what NOT to do!) I just found out (the complicated way) that you should save your zipped downloads, as they are, somewhere on your harddrive, AND on an external harddrive, dvd, portable little doo-dad thingy, thumb drive SOMETHING that will keep them in case you lose or mess up your unzipped ones. Originally, I mistakenly separated all the zips, then discarded them, assuming they wasted space, and then could not go back and figure out which ones came from which group, or designer. I had renamed them all, too, thinking that would make it easier, but instead it made it even harder. :hit-head-with-hammer: ScrapGirls is super nice about helping you out if this does happen, but an once of prevention makes you feel much more competent. So, first of all, save a back up of your zipped files. Then you might want to follows Ro's example of how to sort your digi-elements, (I think it is mentioned in the 15 things every scrapper needs to know,.... the freebie one you can get from each newsletter...)or come up with a different system of your own... but it would probably be best to save that for much later.... I kept losing track of everything, so I put a folder on my desktop, (by right-clicking on the monito screen, and setting up a New Shortcut Folder, calling it "ScrapBook Vault." Then inside that I keep a folder filled with the original zipped files, and another with the freebies I get from the newsletter... and another one for the stuff I have gotten elsewhere. :happy014: Then I have the big group, filled with the subdivided folders filled with all the fun stuff. Backgrounds, embellishments, etc. The embellishment folder is the biggest and is divided into several sub folders.... one is frames, one is ribbons, lace, and bows.... One is for "word and titles", another for borders, etc. Have fun, and I'd love to know how the blog works out. Amy
