Andres went to work today. He knew there was much he needed to do so in he went to do it. He expected to be home in time for the appointment for Adrianna and Isabella.
Diego was watching cartoons with mom this morning. He got up with his parents and was having fun when Julie and I got up to his voice in the kitchen. Adrianna sent us both back to sleep; we took her up on her offer.
So a couple hours later we got up better rested. Getting ready to go for a walk and go to the park took over an hour. Diego did such a great job of entertaining himself while he waited for us. One activity was investigating the zipper pull on the rocking pony. He needed to know if it was controlled by the switch turned on in the pony’s ear like the moving head, bray and swishing tail. Several tries to see if he could find it was, but it was not. Today’s gun by creation was puzzle pieces when he picked up 3 squares and recognized the shape. The shooting sound was an automatic reaction to the shape.
He was so excited to leave. He went to the door multiple times but was called back because it was not time. When we did leave, he saw the little slide right in their front yard and thought that was where he needed to get out. It was very difficult trying to explain we were going to another playground. The trip to there was so long after he began waiting hours ago that he fell asleep before we got there; he just couldn’t wait any longer. We took Adrianna’s suggestion to try the “American Grill” down the street while we let him sleep. After an extended lunch we walked to the craft store just to see where it was. We were talking about hours of business on base not being the same every day, even alternating on odd and even days different hours. The store was closed Sunday and Monday; we laughed. We took some pictures we wanted to get to fill the time while we let Diego sleep. There was a fountain of a globe which spun, a large 3 or 4 foot ball of black stone with the nations carved in it. We saw the HQ for EA Operations, a large, ornate building with a plaque bearing Eisenhower’s name on the front wall. And there was a piece of the Berlin Wall with a plaque of the date, November 9, 1989, the day Frankie was born. Andres and Adrianna had not noticed it until recently. It is covered with graffiti and is in the back corner of a plaza. When you stop and read the text painted on the wall, you see “Freedom and Liberty” and mention of “Tear Down This Wall”. Our world changed that day, we have seen the historic event that piece of concrete represents.
The park was so much fun. There are individual playgrounds for varying ages and Diego knew which ones to go on. He loves repeating the pattern of activity he first sets up. Up the stairs, over the ramp, down the slide, repeat. Up the ladder, over the bridge, down the stairs, repeat. He liked playing in the sand but didn’t want it to get it stuck to his hands; he has got to have clean hands. And, swings are ok for about a minutes; then he needs to run to the next area again. Non-stop moving from the time we arrived till we left, about an hour. The only way we got him to consent to coming with us to go home was he would see his Dada soon.
Diego had fallen asleep with a peanut butter sandwich in his hand. After all the work he had done, we knew he needed refueling. He had a plate full of beans and rice and chicken and cheese and chips. This boy can eat. He also downed juice. Regretfully, Andres had been kept late at work and only had time to run in to change his clothes before grabbing the burrito Adrianna made him (she was sure he had not gotten lunch) and race for the clinic. They have only met the prenatal doctor. They won’t meet the delivery doctor till they are in the delivery room at the hospital. Each phase of the birth has its own specialty and the doctors don’t overlap. Unique concept for us; glad I knew ahead of time so I could think about the pros, not just the cons, of this idea.
We asked them to take time to go to dinner, too. They did. They returned to the Thai restaurant we went to on Saturday. Adrianna had the same dish and Andres tried another 2 dishes, duck and a different spicy pork. Julie and I had just finished her chili and cleaned up the kitchen and leaving a note saying we would be in the field behind the house when they returned. No possible way we could get Diego away from his DaDa. This is their ultimate play time. A walk can be taken tomorrow.
Adrianna headed off to visit Jasmine. Plans are in the making for her to care for Diego while the baby is born. They live across the street and love our little guy.
Please pray all the blessings Jesus has for us tomorrow are seen by us. Sometimes things change that we don’t see coming and we forget to wait on the good and perfect will of God. How thankful we are to know our God loves us and knows all things. He is great and mighty, worthy of all praise.
