2Nd Week, 2Nd Day

Andres is up early, Adrianna and Diego send him off. Hmm, notice Julie and I were not listed there? Think we are feeling this really is a vacation for us, too. We are catching up on sleep. So, I did get up just before Andres was off to get his new vaccination today. And we enjoyed him getting to be home for lunch break.

Zach returned home from his trip north and stopped in to see if Isabella had come while he was gone. He took time to tell us a bit about the countries he saw and the history of Michelangelo and the Vatican museum. Because he was compelled to work for the Pope, he felt he was repressed and painted expressions of his frustration into his work. There are about 8 miles of museum corridors; he saw about 1 of those.

Got out to the post office with Diego falling asleep as he spooned yogurt into his mouth. His eyes were barely slits, rubbed down his through his eyebrows to his nose, and off to sleep for the rest of the afternoon. Realized there are mailboxes all over, we just needed stamps. So Julie picked up several extras. Headed to the craft store. Very nice experience; many crafts is a very pretty store. Some items are consigned by people on base; beautiful work. Got the supplies we need to create birth certificates for Isabella and some Fray-check for Julie and 2 special sheets of scrapbook paper for Andres' Iraq deployment. (If you don't use Fray-check, go get it and use it, please. Never loose another button or the stitching around a button hole!) Walked around to the movie theater and down to the kid’s doctor. Ran out of sidewalk, so we turned around and headed into the commissary. Didn’t think we would shop, but found oatmeal and almonds. Realized they do not have a health food section or the energy bars which can be found at the PX. Looked at the cute Italian restaurant and the sandwich deli; opted for lunch at home because plans were made for dinner out.

Don’t you know Diego woke up just as we walked in the front door; poor boy was sad he missed his time to run and play outside. Lunch pre-occupied him for awhile. I was the one least in need of eating, yet the first to sit down. Adrianna wanted to see if the adhesive squares we found at the art store would repair her pictures in the kitchen. Julie decided on chicken breast and cooked them with broccoli. Headed out again to the playground for Diego’s enjoyment. We let him ride his fire truck over, with Julie flying him over the street. He was so happy. Up and down over and over. He used both the slides on his play area and asked Grama to come down, too. Julie obliged. A few other kids showed up at the older areas; Diego ran right up to the edge of his and stopped to look at them. Then back to running and happy stomping and yelling because he could. Adrianna headed back home to get ready for dinner. We were over to the sand box for raking and moving sand around. At one point he fell into the sand and decided to taste it before he got up. So glad his water bottle was there. I could hear him chewing it. Ran over to the plexi-glass window for Diego to say bye to us from the other side, met a couple grade school kids and headed back on the fire truck. Andres was not home yet which made coming in the front door a little more complicated than we hoped. Julie got his pants changed; he got a grass stain. How many of you in Tucson even know what that is, when you fall on moist earth on which green grass is growing? Got him settled into his high chair to finish his yogurt and play the buckle, unbuckle game till everyone else was ready. Zack showed up and Diego was ready to get out; lots of cheering and some running mixed with stories which do not get finished because of all the busyness going on all around. Andres arrived and changed and we are off to dinner.

The smell was wonderful. The owner came from Italy and wanted an authentic experience for his patrons. With Zach just back, there was plenty to talk about from the Coliseum to the unending stairs and the metro to the food. The flavors were wonderful, topped off with a fabulous shared tiramisu. There was fun made of me because I didn’t think the Italians would sell pizza (because we invented it). I think I will regret voicing that thought for years to come.

Home to American Idol and Greg and Jasmine stopping by. Diego loves the attention and his popsicle. We won’t see them again till the end of the weekend. They headed home so Andres and Greg could play their game before it was too late. Andres has class at 1:00 in the morning.

Adrianna stayed up a bit, reading through her hospital guidelines and briefing us. It is important to know Diego will be safe and happy no matter when she goes into labor. He can not enter the delivery area and we are planning ahead on how to make the time valuable for all. Sounds like we will be able to see the new family all together after the recovery period of a couple hours. Adrianna just reminded us of Andres’ class to prepare us for him being up and our knowing they are not on their way to the hospital without us. Good call-don’t think I would have put pieces together. Think I’d better head off to sleep. If anyone has an idea for a birth announcement on paper to fit a standard business envelope, send me a picture (you know I work best with pictures of art).

Father God, please allow us to see Your hand at work in the lives we live and of those we live with. We want to honor You, to be Your hands and feet. Thank You for Your love and mercy.
