Visitng Day T-Minus 6

Leave Comment
Where did the day go? Staying up late helped Diego sleep a little longer this morning. But, Julie was up with pancakes on the griddle by 8am. We were so glad Andres thought he hit the snooze button but actually turned off his alarm and slept till 8:45 (very late for him). After breakfast he headed off to process papers and to see Adrianna. Still some work to do with things like birth certificate and passport and medical enrollments, but he is on top of it all. He and Adrianna know how important all this is and they are working well together.

Andres came back after Isabella’s visiting hours were over this morning. Diego had just gone down for a nap so we ate some lunch and were able to do a little housework by choice (it feels so much easier and meaningful when it is a gift) and Andres got to relax a bit. Went ahead and work Diego because visiting hours started again at 2pm and he was still sleeping. Driving off to the hospital, Andres saw a guy who works with him and offered him a ride. Andres knew it was only a couple minutes out of the way and it would have taken a lot longer to wait for the bus. Adrianna called while we were on our way, she is excited we are coming.

Visited a bit with Adrianna, but Andres was excited to get over to see Isabella and prompted their leaving. Julie and I got to spend time in the room with Diego, books, crayons, sorting toys, Sponge Bob, puppy, bottles of water, and lots of fun. They came back to get us to say we could visit, too! It was after 5 when I went in-how did that happen. I could not believe I saw the clock correctly! Seeing her beautiful face and perfect little hands was wonderful. Just staring, taking it all in, so simple and so meaningful. We spent the next couple hours waiting for Andres and Adrianna to finish their visit including holding Isabella after she woke and feeding her.

At one point we were concerned about dinner plans. Only the lunch meal is delivered to the patients. If Adrianna’s roommate had not told her the buffet was going to close in a few minutes, she would not have gotten breakfast today. The patients walk to the buffet for breakfast and dinner at specific times, dinner being before 6pm. We had planned to meet them at 7 and bring up some sandwiches for them. But the café did close, as it did yesterday, by 6pm and we were not able to buy anything. When I went in to let them know, Andres simply said, “We will take care of it later”. He is so enamored with this little girl. Julie and I headed outside to walk with Diego up and down the ramp to the parking area. It is very pretty and planted with pansies, apple trees in bloom, grass which is lush and green and shrubs. Afterwards we found a play area with swings and teeter-totters. We will check to see if it is restricted to patients or is open for our use, too. It would be fun to take Diego there and let him run a bit. We also headed back to the birthing area with the great coffee maker for a cup. We were respectful and returned our cups when we were done; yes it was good.

We were unsure if they were still visiting or if we had missed them so Julie went in to check on Andres and Adrianna. She was able to get some beautiful, meaningful photos of them all together holding Isabella. They ended up having additional time given to them because the doctor had been busy with another child and had not been able to come earlier; this was good news.

Walking back to Adrianna’s room gave us time to make a revised dinner plan. We’d drive to Burger King (this looks like a restaurant with clean areas to sit and enjoy your meal leisurely). On our way out of the drive-through we spotted a farmer’s stand and I was able to get some strawberries, oranges, apples and pears. The vendor was a little disturbed with me not being able to communicate. When he told me the price, I just held out a 5 and 10 euro and let him take what he expected; he gave me change from the 5.

Most of what we ordered was correct. Julie’s salads are getting smaller and smaller; glad there was something at home for her later. Got back to the hospital and we stayed in the car while Andres took his burger and Adrianna’s chicken nuggets to her. The weather is perfect and it was still light even though it was after 8.

Got home and checked the photos taken today by Andres then got Diego into a bath. He did not resist much when he knew he was on his way to bed at 10pm, an hour passed his regular time. Called home and gave the good news of improvements and joy of visiting to Cesar and Victoria via myself and Andres. Julie called Frank. Greg came by to let us know about their trip, the wide bus on the narrow road, the history and meaning of the troops, the abandoned homes now, and the beauty of the area lake which would be great for fishing. And we were all ready to sleep, praying Adrianna and Isabella also see the blessing Jesus has for them tonight.
