Tuesday And A Date For Lunch

Keep thinking I am going to get this recorded in a short amount of time. But the details keep coming and I know they need to be recorded.

This morning Julie said they were up at 6am. She got Diego to play sleep for ½ hour. She got the roast for dinner going, got Diego to eat some breakfast and run to find me. Then things went amuck. Tried to get him out of the Sponge Bob pajamas…This is more difficult than you think. Tried the Mickey shirt and the Sponge Bob toothbrush, neither worked. Tried games, tickling, and still no success. It was a very sad boy with his clothes on when his dad came to see what he was doing. If they had not been in great need of changing, it would have been fine for him to wear them all day. So sad boy headed back to the living room and was more sad. He did not want to eat, he did not want to play. He wanted to watch his movie and he is not allowed to get it out (because he breaks dvds in ½).

Julie decided to visit the girls at the hospital for the day and I could stay with Diego. Andres found Sesame Street before he left and Diego started eating again. So we had a fine change of attitude. When I suggested going to play, he willingly got into his stroller and buckled up with my help (both of those things are not normal this week). When we got outside he watched the huge lawn mower on the front grass. There was an Elmo tied to the front of it; perhaps this held his interest. Off to the playground just in time to say hi to a few young kids who were on their way home for lunch. Unhindered by their departure, he had fun running from one area to the next trying out all the possible combinations of slides and stairs. The sand was less fun due to wind which made the sand get near his eyes; he does not like wind. When the landscape crew came to the play area he decided he was going home. He pointed his finger at me, told me something and kept walking down the sidewalk. I asked him if he was going home, shouldn’t we get the stroller? He agreed, willingly. Hmmm. This is very nice. Got him in the stroller and on our way back to the house. And then who was parking, but Daddy!

Andres had come to take me to the hospital and get dinner for later. Glad I put the potatoes in before we went to the playground. All was ready to pack. Made a sandwich and got some grapes and juice for Diego and off we went. Diego almost fell asleep before I got out of the car; hope he got a nap with all the errands he and dad were going to do.

I made a quick trip to the delivery room waiting area; know they have a bathroom there. OK, I also know they have a great coffee machine. I do not have the willpower I need to avoid it. Then right over to see the girls. Adrianna was just putting Isabella down to sleep after a good feeding. The baby seems to be eating very well and the nurses are helpful and encouraging. We had time to chat about the paperwork needed to still be done (ie: applying for a Social Security number, getting a passport, etc) and edited photos which was much easier to do without Diego looking for Elmo and Mike and Ashley. Most of the time we were alone with only the nurses in to feed the little boy in the room and then when his parents returned to visit and hold him. The diaper changing portion of this program was interrupted, a couple times. Isabella filled her diaper, then, while it was open and almost off, it she repeated the process, then again…It reminded me of the Bill Cosby skit about the “poopoo, see the poopoo, awe…” Finally donning a fresh diaper, she was changed into her own clothes, cute little pink clothes which were gifts. She looked so cute. The hospital garb was cute, but not this cute. She was weighed and fed and weighed again. This took almost an hour.

Diego and Andres arrived and we moved to the guest room with the other Isabella’s family. They were on their way out to give us room (we look like we intend to take over with the stroller and all the bags we have). I asked if Sheila could stay again as Diego had cried when she left yesterday. They agreed. They were in and out for a bit, then came back for some conversation. He works with the Bosnian restoration team, his wife speaks Bosnian, he speaks German and his sibling in London they visited recently speaks English. Sheila is learning all. Julie had asked how to say decaf and he reminded us that milk in coffee neutralizes the caffeine and is better because the process of decaffeination is full of chemicals. Diego was very concerned again for Isabella when she made a little crying sound. He wanted to hold her. He came over and checked on her, asking, “Baby crying?” and looking at her face. Andres leaned her down so he could see her face and make sure for himself. Then he was very softly touching her. He was told he could touch her feet, which were covered by her onzie. He tried again to get his arms around her, sweet and soft. We were glad the hospital used very fluffy fiber-filled little comforters for the babies so Diego did not know he was actually not holding the baby but the blanket. For the first time a third group came to the room. Now we felt like we were really taking over. But we could not get the stroller out to the hall, so we just talked and acted like all was well. I hope we are not making a bad impression. We left with the comment, “So, Diego is telling you what to do” from Sheila’s dad, knowing this is what children do.

Adrianna was ready to feed Isabella again so I hope the separation was not as hard on her today. We had had a fine visit. She says she does get some sleep; rest is so important. Andres dropped us at the house, got some broccoli to add to their dinner and was off again.

Our meal was wonderful. Julie got a great salad together for us (not just the lettuce I call salad) and the roast and potatoes were perfect. Diego, however, did NOT share our enthusiasm. He would have none of this meal. Thinking quickly, Julie got him to dip carrots in ranch after he polished off the cheese he had wanted. Then she got out the chicken lunchmeat and he eat several slices of that and a slice of toast (which was the gun of the day). Whew, made it through dinner with all of us content.

Bath time and a new dolphin toy. It did not take long for Diego to forget he had wanted to play with the toy because he had to fill and empty the cup several times. For some reason he got cold tonight after his bath so he and I hurried to get his jammies on and get him ready to brush his teeth. Then there was a Pooh alphabet video and some relaxing; Julie talked with Frank, I got to edit photos. We got to call Tata on his cell phone. I love that Diego does not know yet that if he can not see Tata, Tata can not see him. He just kept showing him things like Tata saw all he was doing. Cesar wants us to squeeze all we can out of this visit. He would love to be here, hugging these kids and enjoying all that is going on. Quietly with little resistance, Julie got him off to listen to his story and lay down for ni-night.

Andres showed up just after he had lain down. He was in a hurry to write a note to the guy who parked in his space. When he came back in from leaving the note on the car, he saw Diego standing with the door just cracked enough to look out. After reminding him he was to be in bed, he offered to help him which must have been a joy for that little boy’s heart. He loves his dad.

Got a sample put together for an announcement for Isabella’s birth and sent a couple photos to family. How did the night go by so quickly? Sent a message back to Dawn about meeting for lunch on base. She came from Tucson about the same time we did and we planned to visit here ever since we knew we were both to be here at the same time for the same reason (their grandson is about 3 months old now and her son works near Andres). Really hope the visit works!

Did we see God today? Was His hand moving in our lives? Are we at peace because of His mercy? What would our lives look like without Him? I can not image. He is an awesome God, greatly to be praised.
