A birthday morning- I already had the best gift of arriving before Isabella was born. Today the joy is continued with her being home for her first morning in her own bassinette next to her mommy and daddy. Found Diego in the kitchen and got a birthday song from Julie. Julie fixed chiliquillas and eggs for me. Adrianna was up soon after with Isabella and made me a fresh cappuccino with froth so sweet it tasted like it had sugar in it. Andres added more felicitations and the morning was off to a wonderful start.
Julie and Diego were going to stay home to play I was told. The rest of us headed to the PX. I had hoped to find a couple things but ended up just enjoying the morning out with them. Andres wanted a power converter for their storage area to keep an air purifier running to protect all the items they have there. It took almost the entire trip to find someone to help him and get the unit he was looking for. When he passed the movies he expected the reaction Diego displays of loudly expressing his desire to look at and take home the movies to come from Isabella, to the point of moving the shopping cart she was in out of arms reach as he walked by…Soon, but not yet. There was a Mr. Potatohead at the checkout- it has to be included in the cart. And the Spongebob Squarepants hat, too. Adrianna had already picked up a deck of Dora the Explorer playing cards. At last minute I spotted the hair products and there was one bottle of my leave in conditioner on the shelf. I checked; I would have taken many if there had been more than one. There was a wine tasting going on, but the excitement of German breads was calling.
We got to the bakery just in time. When Andres selected the 3 croissants, the lady asked if he wouldn’t want those which were just coming out of the oven and were still hot. Yes, and make it 4 then! Added pretzels, pretzel sticks, rolls, a loaf of whole grain sliced, and a slice of cake with cherries on a lemon sponge with a custard and fudge top. Did I want coffee with it? I could say no. Those were wonderful! Then check the post office-no parts for the crib and no sunglasses for Andres to replace those someone in his shop took (poor choice).
Back at home Diego was amazed by his new hat. He modeled it for us, trying it turned forward and backward. Then out came the Mr. Potatohead and he had to put on the little glasses, just like Adrianna said he would. He likes that there is a compartment to put the little pieces inside the toy. The deck of cards were opened and then spilled all over the floor. Going to need to check under the rug when cards are missing, they slid under easily. Andres and Diego enjoyed an afternoon of car racing on PS3 with Diego sure it was his Cachow he was driving on a controller which was turned off. Julie, Isabella and Adrianna headed to the commissary. Think that was when I edited photos, checked email and ordered a 2 sided photo charm of our great grandkids which Cesar had reminded me to do. We got the diaper holder hung in the baby’s room. Now it looks complete with her little photos and accessories all in place. (Now all she needs is her crib.)
Then dinner was prepared. A great spinach, mushroom, broccoli and chicken in white sauce with cheese over pasta and a salad with a whole grain baguette. Andres opened a Shiraz for us and then, tiramisu. This was purchased when we were at the PX. Julie took Diego up the large hill to the restaurant we went to last week. Regretfully, they do not serve cake at lunch and it was not available. So Adrianna and she found it at the little café at the commissary.
Dinner involved lots of laughing till we cried again talking about how Diego can be so smart, cute and naughty all at the same time. He can just turn on a dime from loving his meal to not wanting another bit. At Christmas Adrianna made a fine meal with ham, potatoes, rolls, vegetables. He loves potatoes, but all he wanted that day was rolls. After trying with several variations of coercion, Andres tucked a tiny bite of ham and veggies inside a roll. Thinking he won and was getting the roll he wanted, he took a bit. Partway through he realized; his face just fell. He opened his mouth and the food just dropped out. He was defeated and could not believe he had been betrayed by the roll. Part of this story telling was brought on by the actions of the infamous pasta eater who would not put one noodle in his mouth tonight. He ended up being turned around and finally would just taste the cheese, um, which he loved. So back to the table he was turned and dinner proceeded.
Presents and cake? Too much to ask for. Hand sanitizer, which Adrianna laughed about at lunch because I always pull mine out, a candle which I need at home to replace the one thrown out the day I left, and a bracelet and necklace of glass beads in a plum tone which are beautiful. Andres pointed out that he had said himself the beads looked braided and the flecks were one of the reasons he suggested to Adrianna to choose that one (this brought more laughing). And even though Julie did not shop at the same store, she picked a pair of earring which match.
Bath time. Diego got in the tub and was nearing the end when everyone else joined us to bathe Isabella. This involved both Mom and Grama undressing, bathing and drying with Dad taking about a million photos of all of us. Diego enjoyed seeing Sister in her little tub on the floor outside his tub, but he was not sure she should be taking his soap out to use.
This prompted another photo shoot on the couch for the grandfathers who have tried to patiently wait for a photo of the two grandchildren in one picture. Diego was so gentle and held her softly, giving her a beso when asked to. Tata and Poppa should be pleased at the successful shoot.
We had intended to watch a movie after Diego went to sleep. Andres took Diego in and crawled into bed with him to read stories. When they were done, we all realized we also should be heading off to sleep. We can watch movies anytime. Finished adding photos on FB and joined the sleeping hoard.
