The day has been fun. Breakfast of the great bread Andres and Adrianna got for us yesterday. Waited for Andres and Adrianna to get up. Showered and we were all ready for the “Kids Swapmeet” when the baby was ready. Had a visit from Greg and Jasmine before we left. They went to see the puppy they want to buy; it was a 6 hour drive in a rental car. They mentioned the reason we didn’t get some of the mail we are waiting for is due to the volcano grounding planes. Andres felt better knowing there was a reason besides error.
Andres took off on a 60 mile ride on his bike while we left for the swapmeet. He took the GPS just in case. He didn’t seem to need it. He took a circular route around to several cities in the area. He rode up just after we got the stroller in and Diego into bed to finish his nap. He looked tired but like he enjoyed it very much. He wants to repeat the trip but in reverse so the hills which were a challenge would be less and the less of a challenge would be the hard part then.
The swapmeet was so fun. We didn’t get there till it was ½ over but there were tons of great deals for us. They were only selling kids’ things. We found a few things Isabella did not have yet (this was a very limited list; she has so many beautiful things) like a little coat and hat to go over her Christmas dress and a couple sweet little summer things and a Disney Princesses Sippy Cup. Diego made out- Best find for me was the “Cars Xbox Game” Andres had been talking about last week for $7. Found an Elmo and a tiny Cachow. Also scored today was a Tigger which talks, some fabric books, legos, a puzzle, Pooh swimtrunks, and Elmo coveralls and tee shirt, books and more. And I found a narrow Bible with a great green and blue cover which will fit in my purse for $1! I have to let Cesar know. My Bible has been missing for weeks! (It is different to be so far from the shopping habit for so long. Even at home with the little shopping I do now, it is more than this trip. Kinda nice and kinda odd.)Went to see if we could get pizza but they were not open. Yes, the fast food store was closed. The guys are off work now for the weekend and the food is not available. It is open during the week when they are all working, but not now. Hmmm. The food court is being remodeled and the stores have been moved around to different locations during the construction. The pizza went into the theater lobby and, as I have stated, is not open on Saturday or Sunday.
Zack came over and we talked about needing to eat German food before we leave and a place he found called Steak on a Stone which is aptly named. We won’t be going for the steak, but do need to eat the German meal. He also talked about a hike he did this morning. He was surprised to hear it was to the same castle Andres and Adrianna went to while she was 7 months pregnant, there was snow, and they were pushing the stroller up the huge hill. Greg had joined them on that trip. He showed us trailers for the Ironman 2 movie. He also updated us on a planned chili cook-off and the ongoing debate of what Texas Chili is. He played with Diego, of course. It was a little more low key since Diego was having fun with his new Cars Xbox game.
A dinner menu of quesadillas, rice and beans was settled on. I learned the trick of the little hint of salt on the crispy quesadillas for the first time tonight. I have tried so many techniques and never had the results I wanted. When Adrianna started buttering the tortillas, I was not sure what was going on; I had never seen this done before. But when I ate mine, I knew she had the knowledge I was searching for! As Julia Childs had said, “You can never have too much butter”. It was nice to have everything we needed right there in the frig and could prepare it in a short time. Julie was able to sit for the prep time with Isabella; I don’t think I have seen her be so still, ever. It was nice to see her enjoying the precious little one. During the prep, I headed off to find Diego. He was in Isabella’s room, where I am staying. (I am sleeping on an air-mattress which is amazing. Blew it up the day we arrived and it has not lost any air yet. There is a built in pump which is electric with a cord right on it. Just lean it up against the wall during the day and lay it down at night.) I jumped into the door way and he started to laugh. So I jumped back out and waited for him to come near the door. When he saw me he laughed. I moved back and he ran back into the room. He turned around and I jumped into the doorway, he laughed. We did this a dozen times. He knew I was just beyond view, he knew I was going to pop back but it just made him laugh so much. Andres actually came from the other room to see why we were both laughing so much and was surprised to see there really was not much of a game going on…just fun laughing. I returned to help Adrianna finish up after she did most of the dinner prep. Sat down to enjoy our meal and found Diego was not sure he wanted more than his quesadilla. After all he had eaten before we came to the table, I don’t think he is missing any nutrition.
Then we all made the trek to the Shoppette for a movie (or 3). Picked up some popcorn, too, and were set for the night. Adrianna suggested a call home before we started the movie. I tried home with no answer. We were able to reach Victoria on her cell; she sounds like she might have a cold. Then Julie called home and got to talk with Frank and Mia; it was only 11 am so Nic was not up yet. Mia showed Adrianna the card she made for her. They chatted about our day and wondered if we were ready to come home. They sent a belated birthday greeting, too.
Got the movie started and did pretty well keeping an eye on Diego. Isabella was still sleeping; I think her brother was so interesting during the afternoon that she needed to sleep longer now to catch up so she can spend more time with him tomorrow. Diego loves his popcorn; it was served in a Nemo cup so it had to taste all the better. Adrianna took him off to sleep and this means she still has not seen the whole movie. Julie was glad she saw Ironman for the first time before the sequel comes out next month.
And it is time for sleep. It was a fun day. Heard planes are flying again from Europe to the States…guess we will be going home on Thursday.
