Diego woke up asking for his Dad. I was able to reach him before he woke others. He had a fantastic little story about his dad’s bike and looking to see his dad. Found out Cesar has told him a story along with reading books to him last night. And it was an elaborate story was about flying and his dad’s bike and his mom and then sorting it out with his dad. No wonder he hoped to check on his dad really being there this morning.
Our last day in town. What are we going to do? Head off to the Mercedes Benz Museum for the afternoon. It was 8 floors of history and information. We spent hours walking down from floor to floor, taking in the audio from the handsets we were offered, videos, photos and the cars themselves. Two points which stood out for me: Daimler and Benz met but never become acquainted even with living only 60 miles from each other; the name Mercedes came from a daughter and was not the original name of the car manufacturer. Of course there was all the info on them being at the head of safety for airbags and seatbelts, crash testing, and incorporating incentives for their employees. They were also involved with the Nazi programs using the unpaid laborers and building engines and vehicles for the war. The result of this involvement was 1000s of pounds of bombs hitting the city of Stuttgart destroying their factories. After the war they began a rebuilding which included assisting employees. The hours passed quickly, and we could have spent even longer, taking in more of the displays. One mistake Cesar thinks he made was not taking time in the simulator; when he came to that area near the end of the tour he thought he’d see a little more of the display before heading to the simulator. But, alas, there was a line of several people when he turned to head over…My perspective? I enjoyed the Porsche Museum and all its amenities. It was beautiful and informative and interactive. I am also thankful we went there first. The Mercedes Benz Museum was more of all of these things with the added points of no charge for the audio tour and the lanyards of the audio sets were given to each of us as souvenirs. And I am not sure, but I believe the café was more reasonable today, also. From the ride up the 50’s style futuristic elevator to the leather seats with arm rests built in the banquette, it was a fine tour. (Diego did not know it, but they also had a ball pit for the kids. There were activities for kids available which included shooting down figures with fire hoses and art projects.)
Into town to dine at Willi’s again. Cesar was adventurous and tried the Montezuma’s ribs with spicy sauce which resembled bbq sauce. I found Andres’ spatel with cheese wonderful with some breaded pieces of pork and beef. Adrianna enjoyed her turkey and Andres his pork and mushrooms. Diego? French fries and donations from each of us. Isabella was content with being out of the stroller and being passed from one of us to another. Near the end of our meal, Diego suggested going to the car to watch Raymond. This was his idea of how to get out of the stroller and watch a video, the screen of which he pops down as he passes it on his way to his car seat. He was happy to enjoy an ice cream (a tiny gelato scoop in a cone) which he also suggested each time we passed a vendor on our way into the restaurant. We got in a little shopping on our way back to the car. Cesar and Andres had some more bike conversation as a Specialized Bike was in a bookstore window which Andres had been talking about last night. “Everybody Loves Raymond” was watched after the successful seat belt buckling performance was complete “I try it, I try it” to “Tata help you.” Isabella even complied with little hesitation. Andres did not give back our ID as we neared home; he kept it to turn in after we leave. It looks like we are leaving.
Diego asked Cesar to, “Read books, Tata” and off they went with him running ahead to bed after hugs and kissed and super hugs and besitos and…He was so happy. What a great way to say good night, with a compliant, joyful child.
Did the online check-in with the airlilne. Thought to call after Cesar had mentioned he thought it odd they did not tell us at check-in the book was overbooked. Customer service said a notice should pop up online. Went back to the site; it was there. They are looking for volunteers to give up seats…Hope we leave early enough to be selected for vouchers! We do hope. And, we pray. Join us?
