A thing of beauty is a joy forever: its loveliness increases; it will never pass into nothingness. –John Keats

June 23, 2011 Thursday
Dana and Nate returned to Stuttgart the night before and stayed in town. They navigated the subway and arrived at Patch with Adrianna able to walk to the gate to meet and check them in. What? The thrift shop is open? Nate and Robert played video games with Diego while the girls shopped. Praying for our list to be filled at the store, God provided a pair of shoes in the right size with the tags still on, a book in the correct genera, a travel quality blouse, a Bible for a Kay Arthur study currently underway, a name brand purse, shorts and underamor and a double stroller at ˝ off. This was lots of fun. Dana also became friends with Isabella (shy to make friends) with the snacks Adrianna brought for her. It is wise to use the tools at hand!

Pizza for dinner. Asked for 2, got three. Guys walked to the gate to pick it up. They found rain and puddles on the way back so there was laughter when they came in dripping. The pizzeria asked if we were having a party when Andres requested 3 pizzas. They were right to warn him-huge. I have not seen pizza this large since the early ‘90s when Pizza Hut had offered what looked like a rectangular double pie. And delicious! Thank you, Englekirks! Some YUM. Dana and I tried our hand at a Scrabble game and there was a video game with the guys. Great night.

Eleon’s 26th birthday. Happy birthday, son.
Up early to head to the train station. At last minute we opted for cappuccino made with love by Adrianna and waiting for the next train. Wonderful choice enjoyed by all leaving us time to pray for Andres and Adrianna, too. Asking for God’s blessing and praising Him for His goodness is joy for us, too.

Stuttgart to Mannheim to Frankfort. Then a bus to the airport. Thought it was part of the Eurorail pass from DB but the driver got out paperwork to help us understand it was separate. Driver was also rather surprised when I was heading back with him on the bus and not flying out…I was handed the Eurorail pass for Nate and I, got back on the bus and back to Frankfort. Spent some time looking around the area and checking the train schedules. It is so well laid out and easy to read I did not have trouble making a plan. Heidelberg was my next stop, including cappuccino and my pastry (new favorite marzipan filled, almond slice crusted with ends dipped in chocolate) bought in Frankfort. Back on the train. WAIT. I almost went to France. It was to be a 40 minute trip to Stuttgart. The train had been 20 minutes late coming into the station and as everyone boarded, I did not verify on the train itself (relying on the board overhead). Hmmmm. Off at the final destination and into the DB office. There was a return train to Stuttgart in 30 minutes. Walked the station shops, almost found a scarf for Dana with pompoms, and onto the platform. Asked the Bauhaus Mission staff to help me make a pay-phone call; they chose to call on their phone for me. Andres preferred I come right to the local subway station; he needed to get up early for the competition with Zac in the morning. At the Vainingham station I asked a hotel clerk if I could make a call which she helped me with the numbers (they look much different from home and there are ways to dial both in and out of the area). Left a message for Andres but got nervous because there were 2 Vainingham stops and I did not know how to verify I was at the correct one. Phew-there he is!

June 25, 2011 Saturday
Andres had headed out early to meet with Zac and returned for a relaxing morning with Adrianna.
Adrianna did the BIG grocery shopping trip while Andres, Diego, Isabella and I walked up to the soccer field for some fun. Isabella took a minute to adjust to the grass, not wanting to get off the blanket, but was ready to hold hands and walk soon. Her little toes investigate like fingers, reaching out to the dirt between the grass, testing the depth of a hole, feeling the blades of grass.

June 26, 2011 Sunday
6:14 am and Isabella is crying a little. 6:25 and she has not stopped. It is her habit to let us know she is awake and would like to get up. Today she was sad so I got her up and started on some fruit to see if that helped her; it did. Isabella knows what she wants and usually where it is. Brought her into the living room to play. It was clear from her pointing and chatting and looking back at me then back at the tv she was not sure why I did not turn it on.

A bit later Diego walked in and we started on some fruit for him, too. Chatting and eating and enjoying their attention made for a fun morning.

Email from Cesar-Made a u-turn after I got 30 miles out. Now I'm on my way home. Love you
all. The old man:)

Somewhere there were naps and off to the park with the soccer ball. What? Andres knew there was a yard sale and did not mention it? Minor detour for just a couple minutes. Then a jaunt back to the house to got potty. On our way in we were invited to play in the wading pools set up on the lawn by Diego’s friends. This change of plans worked out great for all of us. Isabella loved the water and Diego loved playing with friends. Andres and Adrianna got to talk with more of their friends. I got to choose to start dinner and gained the company of Elena in her swing inside where it was a bit cooler for her, too. Dinner and the movie “Marmaduke”. “Its not fuchi, Daddy; its chocolate”. “Ok, thank you, Diego.”
Ciao.

“It’s a carrot Popsicle”, of the carrot which split and the core was longer than the rest.

Unending imagination shown here. “Once upon a time…” is often the start of a new story we get to hear.

Sounds like you had a great visit to Germany. I live in Ramstein, lived in Stuttgart for 5 years. Now my daughter lives there and I'm there quite often. Since you got onto Patch, I'm guessing your family are military here. I'm so happy you had a great time in this beautiful, wonderful, friendly country.
