August Wk 3 - Through Glass
This is my shot for this weeks challenge (think its my first actually!) These are Mongoose at Blackpool Zoo, England. They are in a temp controlled, glass-fronted habitat. No flash was allowed.

Canon 400D with Canon EF 80-200 lens
Focal Length 80mm
Aperture F4 (approx, I dialled in some compensation)
Shutter Speed 1/30th
ISO 800 (because of flash restrictions)

The shot was hand held.
Since I did not have a lens hood fitted, I placed my hand around the end of the lens and placed it on the glass to act as a cushion and to try and minimise reflections. It also helped me to steady the camera at such a low speed

WOW Dave you would never know this was taken through glass. It is so crystal clear. Excellent work! They are pretty cool all snuggled up like that!!

Awesome photo, Dave! I just love all the textures: the fur, bark, feathery plants. And, it is so cool how you have framed them in the foreground and with the branches! I also love the monochromatic colors of this ... just fantastic! he-he ... can you tell I really, really like this photo?! :disappearing-smilie:

I never thought to use my hand as a cushion and put the lens up to the glass- great tip! Those fur balls are mighty cute!

Dave this is incredible. They are adorable. Your photo is just great and I've used that technique myself and it works great. That natural frame along with the leaves is just great. Thanks for sharing.

What a delightful shot you captured—so well-framed by part of the structure. Your technique worked wonderfully—I can’t tell that it is through glass at all.

And what cute creatures they are, all cuddled up together like that. I don’t think I’ve ever thought of a mongoose as being cute, but then I guess I haven’t really viewed any except in a picture book.

Very impressive Dave!! Amazing that there is no camera shake - even with you leaning against the glass! And what a great subject! I like how you've got the branch/tree in the bottom corner - kind of frames it. I had a giggle when I read your comments - it made me think - is more than one mongoose, mongeese, mongooses or mongi?! Oh well - enough of the funny stuff from me!! Great photo Dave!

Wow - that is a neat shot, Dave. Thanks for sharing your process there. I wouldn't have guessed that this one was through glass at all. I love your natural framing.
