Monday Challenge 02/28/11 10 Minute Magic
I was so thrilled with the way this project came out, I just had to do a layout about it.

Journaling:
This is my first try at felting a knitted item.
Felting causes the fibers of 100% animal fiber to mat
together to form a firm fabric. This technique is often
used for hats, slippers, purses and bags.
I started with a double strand of a 100% wool yarn, casting
on 6 stitches over three double pointed needles
Following the pattern I found on the internet, I increased
at regular intervals to end up with a very large and
misshapen object that sort of resembled a hat.
Have you ever accidentally put a wool sweater into the wash?
Then you know what happens when wool meets hot water and
agitation. You add a couple pairs of jeans to create friction
and in just 10 minutes of agitation, the hat had shrunk down
to fit nicely on my head. I then rinsed it three times in clear
water and squeezed out as much water as I could rolled
up in a thick towel.
I then shaped the hat over a styrofoam wig head and
let it air dry, shaping the brim from time to time. I
knitted an I-cord for trim.
