Homework 2, Color Challenge, and Newsletter Contest

My DGD's smile inspired the look of my second LO for the wonderful Intentional Design class. I wanted the mood to be sweet and girly. I based my color scheme on the photo's pink and green, which -- happy surprise -- are also the colors for the Saturday 4-16-11 color challenge! I chose Amanda Fraijo-Tobin's resin style for both WA and trim because it's reminds me of clear hard-candy and added a little glitter with Ro's Velvet Glitter style as well. Other info in the Exif. CC's are welcome and appreciated. TFL!

This is so very, very pretty. I love the sweet smile and the lovely soft colors. Only people who have done the class will see this, you will have to post it in the Sat col challenge section as well.

Wow -- I love this layout and it sure is sweet and girly!

I love your border and scallop edges and especially how you framed the wonderful photo!

I especially love the way you framed the pic and how you curved "smile"!

Great job on combining challenges with homework, too! ;)

Very cute!! Love the colors - it is sweet & girly like you wanted :) I like the resin styles on the border and the title, and the glitter trail behind the photo. Great torn paper behind the photo - a good way to help frame the photo and add more patterned paper to the layout. Great job!

My only suggestion (and someone can correct me if they disagree), would be to move the embellishments at the top-right and bottom-left corners, and swap them to the same sides as the glitter trail. Having some sort of accent at all 4 corners of the photo seems a little "boxed-in" and breaks up the flow of the layout. But maybe that's just me?

This is darling! Great job on the color scheme, the layering, creating a mood. Well done! The photo is adorable, and I love how you featured it here.

I have a couple of suggestions. During class tonight, we'll talk about the rule of thirds (different than the rule of three, lol). Images are more dramatic when they aren't dead center - they pull more attention when they are off center. Personally, I would place the photo so that her eyes/face intersect one of the "sweet spots" on the page (basically, if you divide the page like a tic-tac-toe grid, where the lines cross are the sweet spots) because that would make it more dramatic.

The other thing I would do is to move the first part of the title down to the bottom of the picture, reducing it so that it fits across the bottom of the picture (with a little margin on either side). That would connect it to the rest of the title, and to the rest of the layout.
