Mother's Geraniums

My mother starting painting at the age of 85. I took a picture of one of her first paintings and have been waiting to do something special with it. I love the textures in this month's ScrapSimple Club and played with some of the blending modes to achieve the final image. It's just what I had in mind so now I'm experimenting with some more of her wonderful paintings.

This is sublime, the textures are so three dimensional I can "feel" them with my eyes. Love the country kitchen tone here, the colors compliment your mom's painting so well. I feel a scrap lift coming on. This page has cheered me up. Thanks.

The textures are wonderful, and the colors in your layout look great with your mother's painting. What a talented lady she was! Wow. I hope you'll scrap more of her work.

This is beautiful - and I agree the texture is fabulous. My mom always had a flower box of geraniums - thanks for sharing your lovely LO and the memories it brought back!

I was so happy to see the LO you told me about here in the Gallery this morning. Yes, your mother is definitely ‘a painter’. To start at that age and achieve such wonderful skills—an inspiration to us all! Funny, my mother started painting late in life, too. A bit younger, but she continued with it until my father died, after which she never picked up a brush again. I don’t think we realized how much depression had set in at that time because she was such an independent woman her entire life.

Anyway, the geranium painting is fantastic and the treatment you gave it, just perfect. I love it displayed as a piece of rough canvas. Looks like something to order from a mail order catalog! And what a fantastic geranium emb you made. I can tell that the pot and hand tool came from Brandy’s collection. Did you extract the geranium? I want one!!! Red geraniums are probably my favorite annual. They were one of the first flowers I ever bought and potted. To this day, in the summer they are scattered across my front porch mixed with some whites and blues. In the back yard, I go for the hot pink/magenta coloring and sometimes when I can find them, the pale soft pink.

I have tried and tried and tried to capture red geraniums with my camera, but red is like white—VERY hard to get the shading variations. My camera seems to want to just lump everything in as one blurry color.

Better quit here. This is getting kind of long for a LO post!

PS – I love the way you made your Alphas go from red to green like the geranium flowers and leaves. I smiled and wondered if our discussion about gradients the other day had any thing to do with that? LOL

Wow, what a great job you did with your Mother's amazing painting. The textures are sensational! Love the loose threads everywhere, just like on real canvas. Nice that you tucked in just a piece of lace, and the embellishing is spot on, as always. Love these colors and your title work is inspirational, again, as always.
