Nothing to Lose!

Well, this is my first contest I've entered, ever...and this is my second scrapbooking layout. It was created for the Re-JUNE-venate 2011 game, and a member suggested that I enter it in the contest, so I figured, "Why not?"

I'm new to scrapbooking, digital or otherwise. I'm hooked to both but I like the digital better because it's less messy and I'm more creative on the computer. I have been using Paintshop Pro for about 8 years and used to make signature tags as my "thing" but now I've discovered THIS and I'm hooked.

In this layout, my dad stands next to his recruiter. He's 16 or 17 here, cocky, thinking he'd pulled one over on them because he was enlisted and not even 18!. Well, he went through training and served a little bit in Korea before they discovered that he wasn't old enough, and they discharged him.

He and my mother got divorced when I was a year old. My sister was 2 and my brother was 5. There was no way that my dad was giving up his kids and my mom didn't try to argue with him. He raised us only, an amazing feat for the times. In the 60s, not many men kept the kids when the parents split.

We lost him unexpectedly in 2007 and it's still fresh, but time does heal wounds and each year, each month, it gets a little easier.

He was, IS my biggest hero.

What a wonderful tribute to your father. I love the photo your journaling and I like the background you used. Love the hat on top of your photo.

Thanks everyone for the feedback! This project has really inspired me to scrap more of his photos to tell his story. He lead an interesting life to be sure.

Lovely layout! You are doing really well for just starting out. Thank you for sharing a little bit of his story with us. Another page of just journaling with the story you gave in the description area would make this a great two-pager. I'm glad that you are doing other layouts of him, telling his story.
