I'm enormously proud of my adopted town as you might be able to tell! Not enormously proud of this LO however!

Journaling

Colchester is the oldest recorded town in Britain, steeped in history pre-dating even the Romans who arrived 2000 years ago. Our castle is nearly 1000 years old, built on the foundations of the temple of Claudius built a millennium earlier. But time moves on and in order to survive the town cannot rely on its past glories. In 2012 one town in Britain will be awarded city status by the Queen as part of her Golden Jubilee celebrations. Colchester is anxious to be that town.

We have very few modern public buildings to boast of. But this is changing. The university, often in the vanguard of architectural fashion commissioned the Ivor Crewe Lecture Theatre which was opened in 2006 and this year, the controversial Visual Arts Facility (VAF) in the town centre will open its doors for the first time. The juxtaposition of the ancient and venerable with the modern and contentious will be interesting.

I have to say, my preference is for the old - what an amazing history your town has. But these are very interesting modern buildings. I like the background - the brown & tan kind of has an archeological feel to it and the brush work was a great touch.

Fascinating! I love how everything in Europe is so old - there is just an endless supply of history compared to our relatively young nation... Hilary, I love the brushwork too that imitates bricks but I really loved the journalling to explain the variety in your pictures... It works wonderfully (in my opinion) at the Louvre, so why not in Colchester!?!

I like how you included new and old. Fascinating journaling! I like the simple textured background and your WA, too. I think it's difficult to put a page together with such different photos, but you did a great job!

I think your layout is perfect. Love the photos and the history lesson. It's really very interesting.

oh dear! Once a teacher always a teacher eh?! lol

Don't ever stop being a teacher - and my favorite subject is English history! Love this LO. I can see why you have some controversy between those who prefer the historical architecture and those pushing the innovation envelope. Good luck to your town.
