Thursday Challenge What a summer!

I had real difficulty singling out one event or location that summed up my rather diverse summer so I had to include everything lol! Thanks to those lovely Lots of Shots templates I was able to record almost as much as I wanted to. TFL

What a summer! THE ALLOTMENT The early summer was extremely dry and the sowing and planting of crops on the allotment was a real nightmare because there was absolutely no rain. We saved water from baths and carried to the allotment in 5 litre bottles. Crops that we should have grown easily just failed to materialise. Anyway we enjoyed being together and working to a common goal. We had BBQs on allotment work days, bonfires in the evening and loads of fun with Rowan who was happy to dig and "help" the adults. As the summer progressed and the rains returned so the allotment started to produce fruit and vegetables in earnest. Limitless courgettes, spinach, beans, potatoes, raspberries and dahlias have been harvested and enjoyed. The hard work has really paid off. HOLIDAY Scotland was wonderful. We spent 3 lovely weeks there returning to Fort William for the first part and then heading north to the Isle of Skye for a week. The weather was changeable. Sometimes the bright sunshine made the water an azure blue comparable to anything the Mediterranean could offer, at other times it rained so hard that we looked and felt like drowned rats. The holiday allowed us to explore buildings old and new: the 2000 year old steps of a brock in Skye, the monastic buildings on Iona, the ultra modern Transport museum in Glasgow only 4 days after it's first opening to the public. We tasted peaty whisky and heavenly seafood. We saw lush, beautifully cultivated gardens and stumbled across wild orchids and exotic butterflies. We have seen seals and jellyfish from a glass bottomed boat. ROWAN I have spent delightful hours with my adorable grandson and been endlessly enchanted by his sunny nature and boundless energy. I have watched his imaginative play develop and his speech begin to emerge. I have heard him call me Nan for the first time and been delighted when he has wanted ME to play with him or read a book. He is truly the light of my life.
