Dad's Army Christmas Card
I found these treasures in a scrapbook my Mom made. My Dad entered WWII as an 18-year-old right after High School. Apparently the soldiers were given this Christmas card to send home from the front in 1944. The center photo is the front of the card - if you look closely, written around the edge are the then-48 states. Along the road to fight the Nazi's are tanks and trucks passing European sites like Westminster Abbey and the Eiffel Tower, amongst others. I'd guess the big "A" represents the Allied Forces and "PEACE ON EARTH" expresses the sentiment of all.
The left photo is the inside of the card and reads:
This year finds us far and wide
In distant lands, both strange and old.
But come what may, the road we ride
Will bring to us our cherished goal.
For our hearts are bridged by our guiding star
The river flows with joys anew
We set aside the jolt and jar
To bring our Christmas joys to you.
And Victory be the coming year with
Third US Army Engineers.
The third photo on the right is note written from my Dad which must have been included in the card. It reads:
Dear Mom,
Just a few lines to wish you a very Merry Christmas with the hope that we'll see the next one together.
Love, Rob
This is not my best layout design-wise, but I was intent on not cropping or covering parts of the card. For this layout I used:
SNU Brush Set - Painted
SG A narrative - Brush AFT
BMU Holiday Magic Collection
