I learned how to do this last night while reading about art journaling and its super easy. You just play with the "Blend Ranges" in the layer properties menu.

Interesting. I love learning new digiscrap techniques. I use Elements so usually have to find some kind of work-around. I have used a grunge brush as an eraser at a low opacity over text. Probably not as good as what you can do in Photoshop but not bad. However, you are making me jealous! Thanks for the info.
