Chinese New Year Series - Layout 3
i know i promised 4 earlier, but i have run out of scrappable material and decided to stop at 3. =P
So for my final Chinese New Year layout for this year, i have done a spread focusing on the annual River Hongbao festival in Singapore. The title in Chinese is actually the Chinese name for the event, which translates as 'spring comes to the river'. (Doesn't that make the English title River Hongbao - hongbao refers to those red envelopes containing money that we give to kids and singles during CNY - just sound so lame?) The festival runs for a week or so, and features an open-air concert, stalls with various activities, many many huge lantern-statues of the animal zodiac and other figures in Chinese tradition, and of course food. This year there was also a fair with rides, and my almost-5-year-old son was so excited to take a ride all by himself!
The row of animal lanterns on the right side of the spread reflect our animal zodiac signs, and are arranged to correspond with our family photo on the left. My written Chinese sucks, so my hubby actually did the journalling! Here's my English original that he based his write-up on:
"After the traumatic sardine experience in Chinatown, we were pleasantly surprised by the comfortable crowd level at the River Hongbao this night. Waipo enjoyed the free open air concert, Mummy enjoyed taking photos of all the lanterns and activities, and Neko-chan enjoyed a flying fair ride, all by himself!"
Individual sides coming up next. Meantime, here's the supplies list:
