Monday April 30 - El Portal House

This is the house where I grew up, The earlier photo was taken in the 1940's after mama and daddy bought it, the other is from 2011 from Google Maps. I have a recent one as well, but theirs was clearer. :) I love the button border, becasue mama loved buttons and had jars of them all around the house. (Yes, I kept one!)

Journaling:

Mama & Daddy bought this house in 1942 when my older sister was just 2 yrs. old. They lived here all

their married lives until daddy died in 1978. After mama died in 1993 my sister and I sold it and kept some

things for ourselves and donated the rest to our church.

Love this! I wish I had old pictures of where I grew up, but I don't. Great way to meet today's challenge.

Excellent! It's so fun to see the updated house. I miss the scalloped trim though. :)

I love the button border too. What a great memory for you.

Great memories and photos. We moved around so much, I don't really feel I have a hometown. Nice layout!

This is a great page and tells a wonderful story. That button border really adds to the page.

Becky this is wonderful! Your photos are great and I really enjoyed your journaling. I still have a tin of buttons from my Grandma - must have been a 'thing' to save buttons in those days, but what a special treasure to have. I really like the way you framed your photos and the backgrounds you used - the journaling paper underneath looks pretty and helps to pop your photos even more. So cool to see your house now and then and I really like the button border which to me echoed that very cool stone walkway to your house! Great layout... :)

Yep, I have boxes of buttons too!!! From my nanna, must have been 'in' over here too! Love the 40's feel on that old place, the roof tiles giving that fun wavy look and the little awning look so sweet... shame how things move with the times... wonderful photo and perspective... you did so well matching these up... enjoyed your journalling tying the buttons in too :-)

You did a wonderful job on this..love the old and new photo of the house. Neat how styles change.(looking at the scalloped roof top to today's roof and how the greenery grew in behind the house!)

This is just a wonderful layout! I love the story and the way you illustrated it with the photos. It's interesting to see what's changed and what is pretty much the same as it was when you lived there. I guess we scrapgirls are also a bunch of button collectors, lol! I have a jar of my mother's buttons too. :D

The house has changed a little through the years, but is still recognizable. The vegetation has completely changed, though! The topiary is kinda cute. I really like the parking strips - if I had some of those, I'd plant flowers in between them. Love your then and now photos, the yellowed papers, and button border. The clock signifies the passage of time. Wonderful page!

I love the two photos and the button embellishments. The clock works well in the layout. Lovely layout.
