NSD: Do - Over Challenge: Grandpa's Roses

This is the do-over I started before I realized we were going to discuss and critique the orignal at the chat. So I tinkered with this one more and will rework the original at another time.

Here is the original Granpa's Roses - ORIGINAL

The black and white photo was tiny and didn't scan well. I used Syndee's "Painted" brush to color in the roses as I remember them.

PS - Also --- the larger blended background is "today's" Grandpa's Roses at my house! :)

THANKS! April and Amy for a fun and very informative chat. :)

Journaling reads:

"Grandpa had LOADS of roses in a tiny backyard when I was a kid... That's him holding my sister and I. He transplanted some roses to a shore house and years later my cousin brought me a rose from that bush, which I transplanted to our garden. Once, I even brought a cutting on a plane and planted it at my sister's house.... There are "Grandpa's roses" all over the country today!"

For this layout I used:

ABR Warm Wishes Collection

SNU Brush Set: Painted

BMU Coastal Collection Biggie

AWI Miracles Collection Biggie (retired)

CK Ali's Hand Text

Gosh Marilyn, what a difference. I love the blended background and the journaling. I also have a plant growing that my Father planted nearly 50 years ago. It's really special. This is really beautiful. TFS.

Lovely blended/faded background photo, I like the treatment you gave your old photo. Wonderful journalling and memory. This is much better than your original.

Oh, my goodness! What a difference. Such a different style altogether. I really like your soft background with just some of the roses full color. Nice design, too, with the circular photo & the border behind it.

I love the way this turned out! The small black and white photo with the red roses is marvelous. I especially like the flowery background - so perfect for the rose theme. Wonderful journaling, too.

Oh wow!! This makeover is a winner!! The background is so much more subtle and meaningful than the original and the softer colours make the black and white photo stand out more, tying the smaller photo in by matching the roses to the larger picture really gives a feeling of continuity despite the years of difference... The journalling is still heartfelt and special and I love how you put it below the painted lace to anchor it, gorgeous page...
