May Contest Rose

The backstory to this LO and photo is really great. At the recent SGs Midwest Meet up, my roomie, Amy, received a beautiful bouquet of roses from Mr Amy (He brought her flowers during the SG convention in 2008 and delivered them there in front of a huge roomful of SGs). Since Amy was flying home and didn't think her flowers would travel well, she wanted to take photos of them. She an I had planned a photo walk near our hotel in an old industrial area with lots of old brick buildings and such. So we took the bouquet of roses and took a bazillion photos around the area. Deserted old warehouses and factories and a bouquet of beautiful roses, the juxtaposition of the fresh and lovely on the old and worn out. We both got some great shots and had a blast for a couple of hours. This was my favorite shot out of that bunch.

That was a super idea -- love the juxtaposition of velvety soft petals agains the worn rough surfaces of the buildings. It made for amazing photos and a fabulous layout. I love the circle, and especially the use of a film strip as part of a cluster. I like how you brought that rose-red into the background, too. Love this!

Very beautiful, Sandi! The photos are great (as is the story behind the photos!) and the layout skillfully center-stages them!!

Your layout is so interesting to look at here! My eye is just jumping all around the page ... but there is no mistaking that "the rose" takes first notice! Beautiful page Sandi!

I just got home from work and found this! Awesome work! Your layout really portrays the juxtaposition that I was looking for when we went out with the flowers. We did have so much fun, didn't we?

Wonderful layout!

Beautiful layout. Your page really stands out so nicely. The brick background with the soft flower and all the tones of red are so lovely together.

Me too Amy. That morning was sooooooo much fun. And I love how Mark send those roses to you! And it was your idea to take them out there with us! So if it weren't for you and mark, these photos and this LO would never have happened. I guess that's one of the reasons we scrap, to keep those memories alive.

This is marvelous. I love your explanation of the juxtaposition - great story, great shots and I love all the grungy, fragments in the background.

Lovely page, Sandi. Sounds like you two had a great time together. I too love the juxtaposition of the delicate flower and the rough wall. A companion page with the journaling would be wonderful too. Great job on this page.

Congratulations on this winning layout, Sandi! It's gorgeous. A well-deserved winner! (I had commented on this when you first put it into the gallery, but - for some reason - I couldn't comment on your profile to let you know I saw that it won the prize.) :)
