Loons
This weekend at the cottage the loons were very active and calling. It is one of the most beautiful sounds. It was very misty and grey and their call was very loud and echoing.
The mates were coming very close to the dock. I took as many pictures as I could before a downpour forced me to cover my camera.

What a great close up of the loon! And that you made it the main focal point. - I dont think I have ever really seen a Loon before.

What beautiful photographs - you caught the red eyes! I love the background and masks you chose for them, and your journaling is so evocative of their calls. I was reminded of a quote from Into the Wilderness by Sarah Donati, who described loons as "So simple in their coloring and still anything but plain - geometric detailing to the point of gaudiness."

Great photo - I don't know if I've ever seen a loon looking right at the camera like that. Love the background - it really does feel like a misty day on the lake.
