Journalling reads:

Norm often spoke about being the youngest, and physically the smallest in his class at his Nambour schools. He sometimes mentioned the humiliation of even the girls beating him up. And yet, it was in the school setting and as a teacher that he came into his own, as an example of the life journey that learning can offer. It was from the platform of education, that he became a bank clerk, a young country teacher and then a coder in the merchant navy during

the Second World War.

At the end of the war he returned to teaching and in the central Queensland town of Biloela, he met his future wife Mavis Tucker. Together teaching was to take them from small country schools in regional Queensland, to the Torres Strait and Papua New Guinea.

I love this background story to the man who would later be the Headmaster at a school I attended! I find it fascinating that he turned a negative experience into one that helped shape lives... The photos are wonderful and I do wonder if he ran across friends of mine who used to live in Biloela and were involved in banking! And who lived in PNG ... and who live in Brissie now.... Love the warm aged brown paper you used on these photos, it gives a great retro feel :-)
