The Crucible, set in 1693 and based on the events of the Salem witch trials, was written by Arthur Miller as a response to McCarthyism in the 1950's
It is one of my very favorite plays and I had the pleasure of stage managing this production in La Mirada CA. The costumes were created by my friends Kathy Gillespie and Barbara Wiesel.
The quote says "We are what we always were in Salem, but now the little crazy children are jangling the keys of the kingdom and common vengeance writes the law!"
