Saturday Color Challenge

I received a beautiful watercolor painting made by a friend so I wanted to send her a special thank you card. This sumie painting represents my attempt at being an artist. While I lived in Japan for two years, I was fortunate to have instruction by a delightful and talented teacher, a "sensei". She said that it takes a lifetime to master the art so I was pleased to be able to accomplish what I did in just two years. Sumie appears to be very simple, but is actually very complex. The same brush stroke is practiced over and over for years and years! The haiku reads "My morning garden . . .my sunny . . .chrysanthemums . . .are sea-mist shrouded." (sampu)

This is so beautiful and so different from most of your other things. I love how you blended the oriental paper into the chrysanthemums at the right and the yellow at the left—at least I ‘think’ that is how you put it together. The painting is wonderful, as is the fantastic flowing oriental text. What a lovely card this makes, and so special for a good friend.

Wonderful. I don't know what else to say. I love the surprise of the offset painting, the panels of colour and the wonderful journalling.
