Photo Manipulation

This snapshot from around 1976 was so very faded and scratched, really in bad shape. I duplicated the photo, and used the multiply blend mode with about 60% opacity to get a lot of the vibrance back. I used several different adjustment layers for exposure, levels and something else that I don't recall...3 adjustment layers. I then used another duplicate layer for high pass sharpening. After that was flattened down I used a small amount of the surface blur filter to decrease the texture of the photo. Then another duplication and another high pass filter sharpening (duplicate photo, high pass filter, then soft light blend mode). After that it was just clean up a few spots with the healing brush tool and final crop. Took a lot longer to get the photo half-way decent (it was a lousy snapshot to begin with, but great memories) than it did to do the layout.

I used Brandy's Cottage Christmas collection.

Beautiful Christmas LO, Sandy! The journaling is fantastic! I like the hint of red blending in the background, and your use ribbon.

Beautiful layout Sandi! Wow, you put a lot of work into the photo restoration, but it looks like it was worth it... it turned out wonderful! I love the layered frame and the baker's twine and embellishment cluster. I like the placement of the title and great journaling too.

Oh, this will go so wonderfully with your other one using this collection! Love the string cluster. And from how you described the conditon of your photo, I think you did a marvelous job with it.

I need to favorite this so I can remember your steps - I have some lousy but of sentimental value photos too. Love the layout - the pretty papers, the panels and stripes - lace & decorated. Just beautiful, Sandy.
