Dad’s memorial service was a beautiful celebration of his life. Someone from work drove his Allis Chalmers tractor that he had re- stored and parked it right in front of the funeral home during the visitation. Mom and I displayed scrapbook pages, a few of his favorite tractor and seed company baseball caps, his fireman’s jacket and a fireman’s uniform. There were flowers and greenery all over the place. Though Christopher was quite sad when we first arrived, he quickly made friends with the dog and Michael made friends with the cat who live there. They are truly therapy animals. The Atlantic Fire Department showed up en masse, most of the men and women from work and countless family and friends. The quote below is a blended photo of a stone plaque given to Mom that evening. At the end of the evening, Mom and Dad’s good friends, the Bustas were able to come from Forest City. The boys posed near the tractor out front.
