Journaling: I made a ceramic nativity set back in 1978. It was all white and each piece had a touch of gold. Andrea and Ellen loved to set it out every Christmas and argued every year about whose turn it was to set it out. They even broke Joseph one year and didn’t tell me about it for years. When they grew up and left home, they both said that they wanted the nativity set. I looked and looked for one like it and finally in the fall of 2002, while walking through the Fort Steuben Mall one day, I spotted one almost exactly like it. I immediately bought it. I decided to co-mingle the pieces so each of them would have some of the old pieces and some of the new. That year when they came home for Christmas, I put the old nativity set out as usual. After they went to be on Christmas Eve, I quietly took down the old set and mixed those pieces with the new. The next morning after all the other gifts were opened, I told them I had a surprise. They were amazed and couldn’t figure out how they both got “THE” nativity set. After I explained, they were delighted and very happy that they both had the nativity set from their childhood.
