Send-Off

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:

I really like the stamped look of Brandy Murry's Brush Set: Art Diary Alpha Super Biggie. When I had finished placing each letter on my page, it just wasn't quite right for this country-themed layout. I tried a Blending Mode or two, which allowed the canvas texture to show through a little more. Then it came to me - Kim Meeder's ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Branded 10601 - PS could be used for canvas in addition to wood. Sure enough, following the easy directions that came up after I pressed Play on the action, I customized my title in just a minute! Now the title looks "burned" into the canvas, giving it the texture and look that I was wanting.

Journaling: The Atlantic Fire Department always tries to send a truck to the funeral of a present or past firefighter. The procession from the church to the cemetery (about 2-3 miles away) was led by an official funeral home limo, a big ladder truck from the fire department, a smaller firetruck, another red truck from the fire dept, then five restored antique tractors driven by some of Dad's tractor friends.

More would have come if the weather had been warmer and less windy. One man from northern Iowa really wanted to come but with the wind he was afraid to haul the flatbed and tractor that far. The four men and one woman HAD to have been cold. Maynard has a byline in the Atlantic newspaper and wrote about Dad in his column. He said he was glad to send Dad off that way and would have driven his tractor even had it been 20 below that day. The kids, especially William, thought it was the coolest thing ever, and he kept saying whoo whoo (siren noise) and tah-tor, tah-tor the whole way to the cemetery.

I just know Dad was looking on with approval.

.....and I always love seeing your tractor photos, Cheri! LOVE the fabric squares you've put behind the photo strips - they really add so much to your layout! Love the arrangement of the photos too - this is a wonderful layout and what a nice tribute to your Dad. What a special man he must have been to have been given such a beautiful send off! Thanks for sharing this memory!

How touching! Your dad must have been so special. He will be missed. The burned look is so authentic looking and perfect. Like the added color of the material and the richness of your LO. The tractors are amazing. Blessings on you!

Cheri, I'm so glad that you shared the journaling when you uploaded this layout. What a beautiful tribute to your father who was obviously loved and admired by many. You could not have designed a more pleasing page to honor his memory. I really appreciated your "Tip" in the NL and will definitely add Kim's action Branded to my stash.
