House on the Hill (right)

journaling:

I spent every summer of my childhood in the car, riding to and from southern West Virginia and my grandparents’ house. I was fascinated by the old, gabled house in Hillsville, Virginia and would look for it every year. Imagine my delight when just last summer (2012) I found a box of old negatives and photos that had been taken by my parents sometime in the 1940’s, well before my time! The photo over to the left was taken by them, the ones above are from an internet search. It turns out the house has quite a colorful past! Built in 1911, it was designed by

Sidna Allen and his wife. Sidna Allen was a member of the so-called "Allen Clan" that was involved in the notorious Hillsville Massacre of 1912

in which several people, including Carrol County officials and Judge Thornton Massie were shot and killed in the Carroll County courtroom.

Gorgeous house and great journaling! Love the two page spread and the history behind the house is very interesting if a bit sad. Lucky you finding the negatives, great LO. TFS Xxx

The two pages look great together. I like how you show the house in different ways. Fascinating journaling, too! Wouldn't you love to explore the inside of the place?

What a beautiful house this is. This is the kind of hours I've always wanted to live in, old Victorian style with the large wrap around porch.

Your layout is beautiful and I agree, it looks regal. Beautiful!
