Thurs. 8/15 - Art Journaling Challenge

I'm really not as happy with this one as I'd like, but I decided that this is it. Comments and suggestions are always welcome.

Hi Princess,

First, where you live sounds like an awesome place. Love your list of activities, and how you emphasized parts of the quote by changing the type size.

I think one reason you're not happy with it is that there are so many different elements and none of them repeat. For example, you could take out one of the flowers and fill its space with a copy of the other one, only a slightly different size, color or transparency. Or add another ribbon or two. Repetition and variation are two design elements that really help to hold together a composition.

May that's more suggestions than you were looking for... but I hope its helpful.

Karen

After seeing your list of activities, Joyce, it's a wonder you have any time to scrap! I love seeing your layouts and am so glad to see you doing some art journaling, too. I think you definitely got your thoughts across in this one! :D It's a little bit messy, but I think that's the point, right? Just lots of stuff going on in your life right now and you've conveyed it well.

Hi Joyce, well I think this is just lovely and I really enjoyed reading your journaling. Your words really gave me a sense of where you live and all that is available to you and it sounds like such a neat place to live. I like the way your journaling runs down the page in a list and all the different word art and words you used that describe the feel of where you live. I also really like the different warm, comfy colors you used - it feels like home! Super embellishments, too - I think you did a wonderful job. Thanks for adding your own personal thoughtful creativity to the Thursday challenge! :)

I like this, Joyce! It was so neat to read your journaling and read all about all of the activities and things you do! I agree with Diane - it's a wonder you have time to scrap and you do scrap some of the most beautiful layouts! I like the composition of your layout and your word art is just fabulous! Your quotes are perfect - if I learned one thing in our military years, it is "Home is Where the Heart Is and I know your heart is right where the two of you are right now! Wonderful layout!

Joyce, I enjoyed reading your journaling, putting together all the things that make up YOU and your life. The embellishments that you used are wonderful--made me want to stop and look at each one and piece together the significance with your journaling. They also bring color to your layout, which is just lovely. Love "My Life is in Pieces," "Simple Things," and the quote by Holmes. I love that the heart seems to be most prevalent on your page...so my assumption from the rest of your journaling is that you have a big heart! Beautiful background blending as well. Nice work -- you should be thrilled with it's turnout!

I really like this, Joyce. Your clusters of word art and embellishments are asymmetrically balanced by your list and quote, and I really love "my life is in pieces" - may need to scraplift that. If it were my layout, the only thing I'd change is to slightly mute the yellow in the flower.

Your new home sounds wonderful. You'll need to make room for all of us who are moving in to join you!
