Well, here's a better version. I made the hymn and the quote different colors, so they stand out from each other. I figured that the hymn was well known enough that I could sacrifice legibility. I like the way that the dark quote is overcome by the hymn and eventually becomes less legible. Thank you Jody, for your suggestions.

Yes yes yes!!! I love what you changed!! The idea of the darkness being overcome with joy is fabulous, with a little compassion rather than spend spend spend Christmas could be different for so many people... Your card captures the meaning of art journalling as well as being eye candy, great redo.

Lovely AJ card! I liked the original card, but I think the changes you made improve it, too. Great idea to have the JOY overcome the sadness of the quote.

Such a thought-provoking card! The quote certainly is a dark one, but I like the idea of the JOY overcoming the darkness. I also like the font and the quote placed at different angles down the page. Beautiful and interesting!
