The Christmas Wish

It took a long time for me to figure out what I wanted to journal for the December AJ challenge - Holidays. When I think of holiday layouts, I think of pictures - I have LOTS waiting for a page to call home. And art journaling doesn't usually include photos. { I know - there are no rules. : ) } As I was working on something else, listening to Christmas music on my iPod, this song came up - sung by Kermit the Frog. As I focused on the lyrics, and later looked them up, it seemed that although the theme is Christmas, it really applies to all the winter holidays, from Thanksgiving to New Years. For thousands of years, people have gathered to give thanks for harvests, for the day to lengthen in winter, to celebrate the closing of one year and the opening of a new year with new possibilities. To me, these words include all these holidays, for people of all faiths, and speak to the hope we all have for each new year as it dawns.

The lyrics were written by Lindy Robbins & Christopher Allen Holden; the recording is in A Christmas Together, performed by John Denver and the Muppets.

Supplies should appear in the EXIF file; I'll check, and add them if they don't.

OH, Jo! As soon as I started reading your journaling I smiled big as this is my very favorite Christmas Carol -- Kermit-the-Frog singing "The Christmas Wish". I could listen to it over and over (& I have!) because I just love the words and their beautiful meaning. So, needless to say I really like your journaling! :) I also really like your gorgeously blended background and the soft, peaceful colors you used which, along with your symbols complete a really special page. Very special layout and thanks for joining the Holiday edition of the Art Journaling Chat and Challenge - I love this! :)

I have never heard this song... I think I fell in the generation gap between the original Muppets and all the Movies that came out... What fabulous words tho, and so very true for this time of year... I love that it is non denominational and non specific and can basically be used as a theme for life... Gorgeous blending and accents, the dots and glitter add great texture. Wonderful.

Thank you all for your comments. Jody, the album was released in 1979. If you have access to iTunes, you can listen to about the first half of the song. Hearing Kermit's voice sing these words makes me a bit teary. (Of course, I just finished watching the 25 year anniversary concert of Peter, Paul & Mary - which was recorded 25 years ago, and I'm still weepy.) As for generation gaps, my playlist starts with Bach, and ends about the time of Simon & Garfunkle; I have almost nothing from the last quarter century!

This is truly lovely, Jo. I love the golden glow you've given the page for most of our winter holidays celebrate light. The words are beautiful, too. Thank you for sharing this gift!
