Saturday Color Challenge 12/28/13

The Skinny guy on the bottom left started it all! My Mom bought him in 1966 and loved him. When she hung him up each year, we knew the Christmas Season had begun! Years later, around 2004 - when visiting my sister we went to a craft village where she found a wooden skinny Santa. Judi bought it for her and a tradition and this huge collection was begun! In later years she added a few skinny snowmen and some round Santas too. But, what she loved about her Santas were how different they were -- made from light bulbs, cinnamon sticks, bed posts, tongue depressors, fence posts, corn cobs.... And that only begins to touch the surface! Each year Mom would lovingly unwrap each Santa and ooh and ahh over him and remember where she got him. Written under each is their date and giver. This year we put every single one out in her memory and then we did the oohing and ahhing...

The sign on the right is from the Grinch Movie, my Mom asked me to make it into a sign a few years ago, it reads:

"Welcome Christmas, bring your cheer.

Cheer to all who's far and near

Christmas day is in our grasp

So long as we have hands to clasp

Christmas day will always be

Just as long as we have we

Welcome Christmas, while we stand

Heart to Heart and hand in hand"

This is quite a collection! I love your photo and am impressed you could fit them all in. I especially like the way you've framed the photo with greenery and added the little touches of gold. Wonderful story and beautiful page! I'm sure your mother would love knowing you've carried on her tradition.

What a wonderful memory and fabulous collection! I like seeing all the different types of Santas. It's great that your mom wrote down who gave which Santa when. I agree with Jane that your journaling is worthy to be preserved along with this page.

What a fabulous page this is. And what a wonderful tradition and collection your Mom started. It's amazing how many Santa's she collected over the years. They all look beautiful. Your journaling is wonderful and I love the sign you made. The Grinch is one of my favorite Christmas tales. I watch it every year without fail, along with Charlie Brown. My Santa collection is still in storage in Los Angeles. I think 2014 is the year to bring them home.
