The Umbrellas of Coca Airport
I didn't much like my first attempt at turning a photo - a field of sunflowers - into an impressionist painting. So I searched through my iPhoto library for a likely candidate, and found this picture. We had flown from Quito to Coca, Ecuador, and arrived in pouring rain. As we disembarked, attendants handed each of us a red umbrella for the walk to the terminal, and then carried them back to the plane, over and over, until we were all under cover. The title popped into my head before I knew what I would actually do to the photo.
I applied three layers of filters to the picture: Fresco over Plastic Wrap over Spatter. The top layer is a picture I took through the plane window before we landed, with rain running down the glass; it's blended with Darken Blend at 75%.
Supplies: BMU_Raindance_Paper-Stormy; TCS_SSDLT_Sketchbook - B; VRA_SSPaper_Jen Edging 4 (ret); SNU_SSStyle_Sanded Edge applied to light gray stroke around photo. The font is LD Painters Hand.
