Art Journaling Chat 2/3/14 "New"

Here is my layout for the Art Journaling Chat & Challenge found HERE.

In creating my page, I read the prompt and began to type my thoughts without thinking - whatever came to my head. I then copied this journaling into four separate text boxes and duplicated each one. Next, I rotated the top layers in different ways to "hide" my words and also add to the design of my page. I also typed words and used them around the page along with word art and quotes.

When I first heard the word "new" and read this prompt, I was feeling a bit ornery about "newness" and change, which I find difficult. Hence this layout! Angie's Art Journey Templates were perfect to create a background with different papers and I just kept adding quotes, words and other pieces around the page. It was fun, mostly because I didn't worry about doing it "right". Which is also hard for me. :)

For this layout I used:

ABR & JCO ScapSimple Monthly Club January 2014

JZI Darkness Falls Collection Mini

DEB Artsy Spirit Collection Biggie

KVE SS Styles: Starburst Pastels

BMU Brush Set: Art Diary 2

BMU SS Paper Templates: Edgers Biggie

ASO SS Styles: Glitter Glows

Okay, I think I understand this better now. I love the word art that you chose and adjusted. The beams coming out of the bottle to me means frustration of new things, am I right? The colors are great and the collections just work so well here.

Wow - so much to look at and enjoy - each time I look at it I see a little bit more. Love the bright neon against the black background - In itself a symbol!

Marilyn, this is gorgeous. Your use of color on this page is outstanding. There is so much to see on your page and I keep finding new and interesting things to look at. The beams coming out of the bottle show me that you are 'becoming the new you'. The old you is leaving and the new you is coming in. But don't keep yourself inside the glass jar. Let yourself out and accept the new and enjoy it.

This is so creative, Marilyn! So much to study... I love the colors against the dark background. I really like the jar with the beams coming out of it. I also like all the word art and "I am NOT becoming the new me!" I can definitely be afraid of change at times (like learning to art journal, ha ha), so can relate to a lot of these words. :) Such a cool page!

I agree with those who said there is so much to see here. It must have been a lot of work to put this together! The result is very creative and thought-provoking and feels like you (at least at the moments you put it together), especially with your color choices and split design. Amazing page.

Oh how awesome...love the bursts of color against the black background and how the rays are shooting up from everything bottled in. I too love the conflict you express in realizing change is coming and the internal battle against it. Especially like your quote at the bottom about control. Love it!

Oh my - this shows so graphically your tug of war with yourself! I love the bright colors over black, the journaling-as-pattern, the bursting rays - everything. It's just wonderful, Marilyn.

Wow! Great page! I can identify with some of what you are saying. I think you also give so much to your family, it is a wonder you have time for yourself. Be yourself.

The rays are awesome. Sorry I didn't make it to the chat after I looked forward to it all month!

Marilyn this is awesome. I love how you've made the page such a dark colour to try and prove how much you like things to be static, however there must be some adventure in you because you've added the fun hints of colour. I'm so glad you just had fun with this page and didn't worry (too much?!) about it. Thanks for the great challenge again.

I looked and looked and looked at this page - every time seeing something new... I love the bright rays and how they are erased and 'holey' like hope is not all it is cracked up to be... the hidden sun is a great symbol and I LOVE the jar - trapping you in a way... the journaling is symbolic of struggle in a way too, it reminds me of a crab in a shell... you really are so very creative and expressive. Love this.

Extraordinary! Love your "orneryness", especially the hidden text on text. Your journaling is fabulous and I can certainly relate. I love your Pandora's box, I mean jar, that has lots of possible scary things, but has those little loving hearts in it, too. You are making the most creative and meaningful AJ layouts. But then, you are a real artist.

Such an amazing and creative page, Marilyn! I can totally relate to having to push myself to try new things. And when we are young we can't wait to explore and go on new adventures...I wonder what happens? Your symbolism is wonderful and I always appreciate your honesty and openness in your journaling! Inspires me every time!

Very striking, creative page! I like all the journaling. Interesting idea to hide some of it by printing a rotated layer above it. I also like the textured rays shooting out of the jar and the bright colors against the black.

I think it's awesome Marilyn. The black is representative of dark moods and feeling while the explosion of colour sends a message that despite all the denial, you will be renewed..
