Karin Meets Tae Sin

Karin was eight months old when we brought her home to Okinawa from Seoul, Korea. Her papers gave her name as Park Tae Sin.

As she grew older, she began to notice that she didn’t look like her sister or parents, or many of her friends. I looked for an Asian

doll, but found only the type that sit on shelves. American Girl did not exist yet, but many families were adopting Asian children.

I found a pattern for ethnic dolls in a magazine - probably Woman’s Day, and ordered it. For her fourth birthday I made her this

doll and her Korean dress, piecing the striped sleeves from ribbon, And we named her Tae Sin. Today, many years later,

she sits in Elizabeth’s room.

Supplies are in EXIF, and include notes on which layers had gradient maps applied, following Syndee's tutorial.

What a beautifully touching story, Jo and I so enjoyed reading it. Your photo is precious and I can surely see how Karin is loving her special doll. I really like how you framed the pic and the embellishments and background you used. This page is wonderful in so many ways/ :)
