Nov. Styles and Techniques - Week 1, Chall. 1, 2, 3, 4

This photo was taken by my grandfather Harold Crips, and filed in his proofs notebook on a page labeled 1920-21. So I'm guessing that mother - Marianna - would have been about three and a half. Her mother had died in the flu epidemic, and she was being raised by her father, his mother, Anna Jeffries Crips, and his sister. They all lived together in Chicago.

1) I edited the photo, which is black & white, using all of Jody's tips. The result was a LOT brighter and sharper than the original, but I blended it back over the original to restore just a bit of the sepia tone.

2) White space - I think I left about half the space open.

3) For geometrics I used Syndee's SSEmb template Take Shape. I clipped three papers from JRE_Family Faces to the hexagons, and blended them together.

4) Three SSEmb: the template (hope that's permissible), COL_SSPpr_BuildABoard Frame, colored with Syndee's Foiled Again style, and Syndee's Burlap and Lace SSEmb-Lace doily, using adjustment layers to brighten it.

All of the supplies are in the EXIF file.

Jo! What a wonderful photo and what an amazing treatment - it is so wonderfully clear whilst still keeping its age, you did a brilliant job! Your background is so pretty and the shapes subtle... I love your quote too... This is such a striking page... Thanks for taking the Week 1 challenge!
