The Perfect Cake

I'm so pleased to have made my own wedding cake. I received second place at a 4-H fair when I was a child for my cake decorating skills (I may have to dig that photo up sometime and do a page on it!), but I hadn't decorated a cake beyond the basics since. I swore off baking years before because my ex used to eat it all and never leave any for me. One of these days I'll pull back out my pie and cookie recipes and share my love of baking with those around me again.
I loved this recipe and wanted to include it on my layout so I'd never forget it, but the ingredients and directions were extensive, and they just wouldn't fit. So instead I left myself enough hints in the journaling to find it again if I ever do lose it.

Even though our wedding was at sunrise, I just couldn’t pass up the memories that I knew we would make having a wedding cake. I found the recipe for our cake on FoodNetwork.com. I honestly think it is the most delicious cake I have ever had. The almond layer cake was so moist. I normally scrape the frosting off, but I was scraping this white chocolate frosting out of the bowl with my fingers once the cake was done. I hadn’t baked a cake in a really long time, and it turned out perfectly. I loved painting the frosting flowers together, and your help turning the cake while I decorated it made a huge difference. I can’t wait to make it again for our anniversary.
