The photos were taken at the Botanical Garden Annual Train Show this month. They are of the 1909 Japanese Village-Seattle, WA and the 1964 New York Worlds Fair Unisphere. Here is some background information on these two structures:

The Unisphere is a 12 story, stainless steel representation of Earth that was built for the 1964 World’s Fair. Functioning as the symbol of the Fair, it was meant to usher in the Space Age and to serve as a centerpiece for the Fair’s numerous exhibitions. Original Plans for the Unisphere called for the globe to rotate, but the engineering proved too difficult. Instead, a double fountain was installed surrounding the sculpture. It is still standing today in Flushing Meadows Park, Flushing, New York.

The Japanese Village at the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition was built to evoke a typical street in Tokyo. The village featured a Japanese theater and café. The site of the exposition, held in Seattle in 1909, became the campus of the University of Washington.

SO cool, Carol! I am really loving your train exhibit photos and this one most especially because I remember going to that World's Fair and still see that Unisphere when I go to see the Mets play!

Lovely page and work.
