All About Me Tasks 1 and 2

Finally found the box w/ my baby book that my mom kept for me and a few of my baby photos. I have very few of my childhood photos (mom has those), so will do the tasks that I'm able for this month's forum.

I'm planning to scrap 12x12 format (will print 8x8) using Brandy Murry's Hello Baby and her Merrick Collection Biggie, but also using other collections as well. Journalling is always a challenge for me--constantly want to go back and edit....drive myself crazy!

I've enjoyed seeing everyone's pages and have LSL.

Journalling:

After long-distance dating (my dad drove 142 miles every weekend to visit his love), Mom and Dad decided to get married--Mom moved to Colorado Springs and they rented a small house just outside of town so they could start their own family. Mom considered two names for me: Ramona (the name of her favorite character from her daytime TV drama) and thankfully chose Laura Ann, the middle name being chosen for her mom and her grandma. Her due date was December 5th, but went into labor on December 10th. Dr. Jack I. Paap oversaw delivery on December 12, and Mom woke up to find a baby girl in her arms. Back in the day, moms weren’t awake for delivery and hospital stays were five days. Mom described my physical features as having a full head of dark, reddish-brown hair, blue eyes, and a light complexion. I am the first born of four girls and the first grandchild; Mom and Dad are both first born in their families as well. My maternal grandparents, Mom and Pop, lived in Stratton (where mom was raised). My paternal grandparents, Gram

and Gramps, lived nearby in Colorado Springs (where my dad was raised). Mom was just 18 years old when I was born and 22 when my youngest sister was born. She was a very busy yet loving mom and poured her heart and soul into all of us (and still does)!

This is my story.

Page 2:

Mom saved the news clippings announcing my birth and several items that were given to her in the hospital. Lisa and I were born in St. Francis Hospital on Pikes Peak Avenue. Mom took the photo of me below with gifts received from family and friends. As she wrote in my baby book, gifts were:

  1. . I often think about my mom's exciting yet lonely time before and after her pregnancy. She lived 140 miles from home and quite isolated living in their small country home away without family and friends to share her new experience. She did the best she could as she's always done. I still have some of the letters that were sent to her by family. She wasn't lonely long--I have three sisters that were born over the next 4 years.

This is so pretty Laura and look at little baby you - so sweet! I really like the colors you used and all the different memorabilia you added - it's wonderful to see. Your photos look great and so cute to see a tiny Laura in the middle of all those baby gifts. (?) Adorable pages and so happy to read about you!

How wonderful to see your baby book! It's great that you've digitized it, too, to share with later generations.

Very pretty pages and great journaling. I love the pretty pink embellishments you've added and they look great with the bit of black and white.

As much as I love your name (it's one of my favorites), Ramona would have been cool, don't you think? :D

Oh, Laura I'm so glad this page was still open when I came back and I updated to see comments and was able to read your journaling - I really enjoyed it all! Funny, I remember my Mom too saying about being sedated and staying in the hospital a while and even listing my gifts in my baby book! And, wow - bless her having four babies in four years, but as I've heard you speak of her she was more than up to the challenge. Thanks for sharing and typing out the journaling, I liked reading all about you. :)

Yay you found it!!!! Love the baby book, it adds a sweet touch to your page! Great idea to include the hospital photo... where I was born was just recently knocked down and is where I attend physiotherapy now! Wish I had thought to take a photo.... and I didn't take pics of where my kids were born either... Must do that.... Loved reading about your mother and the effect having you had on her life and how much you must have meant to her... she moved for love and she stayed for love, building her own little family... This is so touching! And I agree with you, Laura wins hands down over Ramona!!!

What a fabulous double page layout this is. Your birth announcement looks just like mine, without the photo. Love your photos and glad that you had one of the hospital where you were born. Love the two collections you used for your page. The black border is wonderful and looks so pretty up against the pink paper.

Wow wonderful journaling and to have those snippets of your birth are so cool. Birthing has certainly changed...

I love your pink stork and all the pink embellishments with that touch of B&W.

I am so glad you are able to join in...unpack 1 box, make a page, unpack 1 box make a page....repeat as necessary.

Oh Laura, your LO is so beautiful and elegant. I love the touch of black with the pink. You have so many wonderful things to look at I wish I could pick it up and look at it closer.

I loved reading about your beginnings. Wow 5 days!?! I didn't even get to spend the night. We've been to Colorado Springs, a lovely place to visit. Hope your unpacking is going well and your are getting settled in.
