All About Me Task 3 Family
I have a long way to go to catch up, but here we go . . .
Journalling:
Mom and Dad were married early in 1963, and I was born in December, the first born of four girls. My paternal grandparents lived in Colorado Springs until about 1972. My maternal grandparents lived in the country and about 2 hours from us. They played the largest role in our lives. As the story goes, I named my them Mom-Mom and Pop-pop (later Mom and Pop). In the early years, we rode home with Mom and Pop after their visits to our house and stayed a couple days. After we started school, we began the ritual of 1-2 week visits at their house usually two of us at a time. We also stayed with Grams and Gramps after they moved. when Mom and Dad would take vacations by themselves, we loved staying in Denver with Aunt Bonnie. She took us to Elitch Amusement Gardens, picnics in the park, shopping and played games with us. We enjoyed going to Okalahoma to visit Granny’s family. I still remember playing with Uncle Walter at the Sand Dunes and having a picnic with all of the relatives. I vaguely remember waving goodbye to my great grandmother as she sat in her wheelchair speaking something I couldn’t understand (she spoke broken English/ fluent German). As for cousins, three lived in Colorado Springs but all the others lived in other states. Our cousins were our first best friends, and we got together almost every Christmas and/or summer. I’m truly grateful for all the family values passed on to me and showing that the greatest of these is love and respect.Granny's gift of her family stories motivated me to extensively research our family history/genealogy. Now, I plan to travel to those countries!
