Journalling reads:

Mom’s and Dad’s first home was a small pink, one-bedroom. Some time before Lisa was born, we moved to the pink flamingo. About 2 blocks away, Dad/Gramps owned/ operated W&W Gas Ranch, a gas station with an auto repair garage in back. As a young girl, I vaguely remember walking alone to the garage. I must have been about 2 or 3 years old. Next memory, I see my mom walking into one of the open bay doors and being angry that I wandered off alone. Hey, didn’t she know that I could take care of myself? Our next home took us to the neighborhood where we grew up. We were excited to have a great backyard; Pop installed a clothesline for Mom to hang laundry (and she had a lot of it). We loved the mud puddle after it rained. The mess but, oh!, the fun we had! I remember Melanie’s hair dripping and she was covered from head to toe in mud! Mom was NOT happy! I still remember Mom being thrilled with a new gas stove that Mom and Pop brought to her. She disliked the electric range; it didn’t heat things to the proper temps. A couple years later, Mom and Dad heard that they qualified to buy a new house down the street—a larger house with a large back yard, corner lot with beautiful views of the mountains and golf course. One of our faves features was the covered patio—we roller skated for hours pretending to be Dorothy Hamill! Across the street, the sod farm provided acres of grass for our football games and whatever games we concocted. The house had a great deal of beautiful custom word work which included, to our benefit, a long, padded sitting bench in the basement. We turned that bench into a stage using floor lamps and our record player selling tickets to our neighbor friends to the talent show. (Mom and Granny always wanted us to sing like The Lennon Sisters on The Lawrence Welk Show!) During our shows, we would stand on that stage and sing our hearts out to songs playing from those old 45’s. Mom was happy to have her own sewing room—she could make anything and sew everything. I can still hear the whir of her Bernina as she sewed into the wee hours of the night making clothes for her and us. The best memories are the large family gatherings in that house. We had plenty of room for aunts, uncles and cousins, but I still don’t know how Mom hosted everyone cooking three meals a day (and homemade bread!) while entertaining everyone! On another note, I still remember those loud, obnoxious sounds that the high winds made hitting our side screen door. The wind seemed to gain speed across the sod farm and would make an awful sound. I was just terrified in wind storms in those days. As he could afford it, Dad completely renovated our home and even built a beautiful fireplace in the living room with a beautiful mantle and hearth. I still remember the glass doors breaking one time from one of his infamous hot fires he made! Mom stayed in that house as long as she could, but eventually downsized and sold the house in 2007.

Oh, Laura - your houses and childhood memories sound lovely and so warm and loving. I really enjoyed reading about all you did as a child and the games you played. I laughed outloud and you taking yourself down the street as a toddler, wow. :D And, playing in mud and shows and roller skaking - I remember playing so many of the same things you did! Your page is so pretty and I like how you included photos of both houses and even an aerial map - how cool! I also really like the colors you used and your embellishment clusters are beautiful.

Your page, and especially your journaling are just marvelous -- a mixture of wonderful childhood recollections (and what wonderful memories!), anecdotes, and information. I love the idea of the map. Along with all that, you've made the page beautiful. I especially like the ribbon and flower clusters. This is a treasure.

What a wonderful page you've made for your treasured memories. I agree with everything Marilyn and Diane said, especially about the inclusion of the map. And I am so glad that I wasn't the only girl child playing in mud and roller skating to music in the basement.

Reading your journaling about all your wonderful memories just made me smile! I could just see little you toddling down to the garage, like I've got this no big deal lol!!!

Your page is just so endearing! I love the stacked papers under your journaling. The soft pastel colors, the lacey doily and wonderful clusters just added that homey touch.
