Malachite Butterfly

I took this photo at the Norwalk Aquarium Butterfly Exhibit in Connecticut. This was one of many beautiful butterflies in the exhibit and one that I had not seen before. Here is some background info:

The malachite has large wings that are black and brilliant green or yellow-green on the upperside and light brown and olive green on the underside. It is named for the mineral malachite, which is similar in color to the bright green on the butterfly's wings. Typically, the wingspread is between 8.5 and 10 cm (3.3 and 3.9 in). The malachite is found throughout Central and northern South America, where it is one of the most common butterfly species. Its distribution extends as far north as southern Texas and the tip of Florida, to Cuba as subspecies S. s. insularis (Holland, 1916), and S. s. biplagiata, and south to Brazil.

Supplies Used:

SNU Butterfly Dream Collection -- Paper-Dreamy, Frame (this is one of my favorite type of embellishments) recolored using AFT SSStyles Scratched Metals (This is one of my favorite styles)

BHA Blossom & Blooms Spring -- Tulips (this is one of my favorite collections)

I love that scratched metal style for the frame with the butterfly on a screen. The other butterflies seem to be flying around the photo, waiting for their friend!

Very nice, Carol. I like the butterflies on the corner cluster on the paper. I didn't know there was such a museum in Connecticut. I will have to try to get there next time I'm home.
