journaling:

How can it be October already? It just doesn’t seem possible. On Saturday, October 1st, the Covenant Prayer Group from church hosted a prayer bead workshop. The cost of the kit (we got to choose the one we wanted) was $5, and two lovely ladies came to instruct us. I only spilled mine once and had to start over.

Dusty has discovered that if he lays in the hallway upstairs, he can keep an eye on all three of us. Dave’s and my offices are upstairs and from this vantage point he can see mom in her reading chair downstairs.

In the late afternoon, the sun comes in through our back door. We’ve been seeing this rainbow reflected on the wall by the laundry room and after looking closer, it’s coming from a small mirrored plaque (maybe 4”x6”) that was a gift from my dear friend Patty Casterline who passed away very suddenly in 2011. I’d known her since I was nine, and if you recall the story of my lost cross a year ago, I firmly believe she was instrumental in me finding it after it had been missing over a year.

I love local history, and especially old grave sites, so I set off to find a local slave cemetery. It turns out I was not close enough, and since Dave was waiting in the car, I turned back and will look again soon. I did, however, find a beautiful part of the Smyrna Greenway that runs alongside Stewart Creek. There is actually an outdoor classroom set up with benches, I can’t wait to go look again. The water is so peaceful, and other than falling leaves the only other creature I encountered was a very fat groundhog! He quickly lumbered across my path and into the underbrush by the water.

From Wikipedia: “Hole-in-the-Rock is a series of openings (tafoni) eroded in a small hill composed of bare red arkosic conglomeritic sandstone. The sandstone was first formed some 6-15 million years ago.”

Wow, this is awesome Becky and a week filled with so many interesting things! I giggle at trusty Dusty (oh my that rhymes!) and marveled at both your rainbow story and photo. And, such beautiful nature pics from you and Sarah.
