Left page, inside the Vatican Museums
Here's the journaling since it's probably a bit small to read:
"Our afternoon in Rome took us to the Vatican, where we toured the museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica. There are actually several different museums that make up the Vatican Museums, each with their own focus area. The artwork we saw in the Vatican Museums was stunning and we saw many paintings, sculptures, tapestries and mosaics. The Hall of the Animals in the Pio Clementino Museum was set up under Pope Pius VI with antique works of art with the aim of creating a 'stone zoo'.
The Laocoön statue was found in 1506 on the Esquiline Hill in Rome and identified as a masterpiece of the sculptors of Rhodes. It depicts the story of Laocoön, a priest of Apollo in Troy, who warned the Trojans against taking in the wooden horse left by the Greeks outside the city gates. Athena and Poseidon, who were favoring the Greeks, sent two great sea-serpents which wrapped their coils around Laocoön and his sons, killing them. From the Roman point of view, the death of these innocents was crucial to the decision of Aeneas, who heeded Laocoön’s warning to flee Troy, leading the founding of Rome. The statue was made around 40-30 BC and is displayed in the Statues Courtyard."
Supplies are in the EXIF. Thanks for looking and have a blessed day!
