February Challenge #3

This is a photograph is of my great aunt Gertie Sandell outside her home in Winnipeg, Canada. Another gem from the stash recently uncovered at my Dad's. TFL

Journaling reads:

The touching note on the back of this photograph reads:

“Dear Gert’s last photo taken in the middle of winter. The worst winter in Canada for over 70 years.”

My research suggests that the photo was probably taken in the winter of 1947

This is wonderful that you have these photos. I like the dark paper and the newsprint behind the photo. You really showcased your photo. Great work.

Wow, that photo is such a gem and how beautifully you've scrapped it Hilary. I really like the colors and pieces you used around your pic and your title is so pretty. I especially like your journaling in a light color - it looks great and I never think of doing that! Thanks for joining in Week 2 of the February Forum game. :)

Wonderful old photo! Lucky you, to have discovered these gems and I'm so glad you are digitizing them for future generations. I like the composition of your page and especially the way you've framed the photo. As an aside: Now that we use digital media (camera, smart phone, etc.) we snap so many photos that it's difficult to remember the "old" film days when most of us took photos only on special occasions. I think it's interesting that this is labeled her last photo and it was taken 3 years before she passed on.

What a treasure you've uncovered. Love the color selections you've chosen for your special photo and your LO of elements. Very nice!!

This is a great old photo and mid 40's sounds about right with that coat and hat. How wonderful to find the photo and the subject identified.

I love that wordart - such a pretty G. The floral stripe is also very appropriately vintage looking. Great layout.

Love the heritage photo and the way you've wrapped mats, the floral strip and cluster all around it (sort of like a warm coat.) Love the font for your title. I can't imagine how bad a winter would have to be to set records in Canada!
