Tuesday Challenge 9/5/17- Event: "Solar Eclipse 2017"
It was a cool and delightful event watching the recent solar eclipse at my town’s pool. I think I enjoyed watching the people as much as the eclipse!
Journaling reads:
“I couldn’t find solar glasses so Judi sent me a pair that luckily arrived on time. I made a cereal box viewer and brought all my equipment to the pool. The weather was iffy - the day started with sun, but clouded as it went on. At 1:30, just as the eclipse was to start, thick dark clouds covered the sky, ‘Oh NO! But, the clouds were thick enough to allow me to look up at the sun and there it was, the start of the eclipse! A few minutes later the clouds cleared so I looked through the glasses; how cool to see the moon covering the sun bit-by-bit. It was hard to remember the crescent we were seeing was the sun and not the moon. My glasses were shared all over the pool with all ages and it was fun to watch the wonder and excitement on each viewer’s face. West Orange was getting about 73% totality and as it got closer we felt the air cool and the birds and squirrels quiet. The atmosphere got almost eeire and darkened with a yellowish hue. Crescent shadows were all over, including across the water and when I straightened my arm to the sun, I couldn’t feel it - it had no warmth. As the moon started it’s path away from the sun, everything and everyone slowly went back to normal. I laid back in my chair with my glasses on and watched until the sun went back to its bright full circle. Suddenly it was hot again! All of us marveled at the wonder of the eclipse and it was talked about all week! Later on Terry sent photos taken in Randolph through solar eclipse glasses, how cool!”
