Journaling reads:
My family is a bread family - especially me. The call me “Brood Pens) - it’s Afrikaans and means (directly translated as) “bread stomach”, but it means bread lover. I did not like any bread when I moved to the USA, it all seemed like ‘fluff’ to me. Light and airy and I felt no satisfaction after eating it, I 'wondered' where the bread was. So I learned to make my own Artisan bread. I have to make one a day, because no sooner than it’s out the oven, it get eaten up.  I especially love it with butter and Brie cheese, my other love. YUM!

Looks wonderful! I make bread too, even had a go at sourdough, which turned out surprisingly well! I adore bread, and they say that bread should be of the consistency that you have to really "chew" it. We just came back from the South Coast with 2 loaves of beautiful sourdough! Such a treat!

I'm with you Andrea - most mass produced bread is awful. Your LO made me think of my Gran who grew up at the tail-end of the Victorian period. Her diet as a child would have relied heavily on bread and cheese. One Christmas towards the end of her life she was staying with us and I'd prepared a feast of delicious home-made "goodies". At the end of the meal it was the bread and cheese she praised (just about the only things I hadn't made!). Old habits die hard!

Love this Andrea! Such a pretty page with amazing colors. Well done for keeping your tradition alive :)

Brood is one of my most missed food since moving over to the Uk  ca1978 :D
The bakers back home are the same as in France, fresh bread every day, no preservatives, not in plastic bags. Just good wholesome fresh bread, verse brood wit of bruin, groot of klein. I love making bread it is so satisfying and it is  the first place I stop at when I go home 'the bakker' .

Fabulous LO :) I know what you mean about the store bread bread!! I make my own these days although it lasts a long time as we don't eat that much these days. The best bread I've had is in Europe :)

I could swear I'd commented on this but can't find my post!  I love bread and homemade and hearty and crusty is even better!  Your photos are beautiful and your background is so amazingly and beautifully blended!   Wish I were there to have a bite with you. :)
